Electric Red w/ dipped Wheels!
So i'm late on the plasti dip bus. Most people will quickly say my rims should have been black to begin with, but I liked the contrast, and not being so predictable. I wanted to do this years ago when the product was new but to be honest, I'm lazy! Thankfully this was not an all day process or more so i made it a quick process(aka i didn't wait 4hr between coats, more like 10min)
So I'm share some pics and how the process went. This is how my rims looked. Shock and embarrassing that i drove arround like this, i know, lol. They held up very well and i LOVE the color scheme. First I acquired the supplies. After scrolling through colors i decided on black with a gloss. First I cleaned the wheels and knocked away loose paint and clear coat After epic tape and new paper application fail, I went with the card method. The card method was supper easy. I must say my inexperience killed me here, to the point of not really knowing how thick to spray or not. 2 things to note that led me to success when applying on the next 2 wheels. 1- use 2 cans at once and get a thick wet even coat. For ease i applied all the coating needed in 1 setting rather than waiting the 4 hours. 2- when the can is low it sprays in clums, STOP NOW, and get new cans or you will ruin smooth coat. This by far is the worst wheel but it was the first. I'm supper impatient so after 30min I put wheels back on, lol. I was super careful and it was sum-what dry. In the end its temporary so if i don't like it, just remove. I'm scared the car wash(touchless) will remove it so hand washing for now. Mostlikely at some point i'll just get the wheels powder coated so i can car wash again. Again notice i'm so impatient i mounted the wheels, drove and took pics all before the 4hr cure. Anyways what do u think? the end

None at all. The car should reflect what you want, F what anyone else has to say

Nice pics! Red is really the only color that can rock black wheels in my opinion. Time for a drop

I usually don't like dip that much, but that looks pretty good.
I am considering dipping the lips on my wheels, since they are chipping and the clear coat is peeling... re-post in a while and let us know how the dip is holding up on the chrome lips. What roof spoiler are you running?

Seems as if the plastidip didn't lay down very smooth?? Car looks good, but i think id go with powder coating on wheels to smooth out any imperfections.

As for the wheels 2 didn't even make it to work and i immediately saw the error in my ways. When i parked at work essentially the lips of the 2 wheels dramatically pealed back. It looked horrible. Quickly i peeled the dip back before coworkers pulled in. Basically on those 2 wheels i didn't get the edge of lip with enough dip. Then secondly I probably didn't layer enough. After work i stopped by a powdercoater and was quoted $75-85 a wheel with curb repair. I told him I wanted the same color i plastidiped and he said yeah Gotham black, and i got excited because when i painted them I thought Dark Knight Black, we were on the same page so i said this is the guy. I hope to get this done next Friday. Plastidip was a great experience but not one i want to repeat often. Thanks! I also posted in the photography section from cars and coffee. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1014812 U are correct. Next day 2 wheels peeled back!

Electric red always seems to photograph well
I think you'll be a lot happier with the powder coat.
