Completely different car - WITH DYNO! (351whp/390wtq) [updated]

All I have to say is WOW!

The WOT pulls in 1st, 2nd and 3rd are freaking amazing, the sound (both of the now very-audible turbo spooling and the overruns with the DP) is orgasmic and all on top of that the driveability is pretty much stock like. I am running the JB4 with the EWG harness on Map 2, target of 14.5 psi and it's consistently getting up to and holding that target through until 6000'ish rpm. The stock Michelin PSS tires no longer hold!

I have to say that for the ~$1.6K all of this ran up to, I am more then satisfied with how it has transformed the car. I plan on putting the car on a dyno at the end of the week. However, I am going to sleep on whether I want to go up to Map 5 (auto-tune) for the week before the dyno or just evaluate Map 2 for a while longer and dyno that and be happy. My goal (for now ) is at least 350whp. I plan on sticking with RM2 92 octane I have available to me as it is my DD. Achievable?.. we shall see.

7/31 Update:
JB4 Off w/ ER DP, BMS Intake, BMW MPE: 325whp/364wtq.
JB4 Map 1 w/ ER DP, BMS Intake, BMW MPE: 336whp/363wtq.
JB4 Map 2 ER DP, BMS Intake, BMW MPE: 351whp/390tq.

Run conditions: 88deg F with 40% humidity.. IAT's were well into the 150's on some pulls so I'd say that heat soak was definitely an issue.

Ohh man...I really fudged up when I only purchased stage 1, I ordered stage 2 and the EWG yesterday. Reading this makes me that much more stoked! Keep us posted on your decision!

How are you seeing boost level??

For the dyno, love to see you use map 5 and ensure you know your exact Octane level and log boost level during entire pull. Help all of us see true help of auto tuning :-)

I have no interest in going with a DP. Probably going to do BMS intake, MPE, and JB4 Stage 1. Why do you say you fudged up?

Exactly my question on buying the BMS JB4 Stage 1, you can add the Stage 2 module to the Stage 1 for just a little more than if you bought the Stage 2 at first. Upgrading slowing is always the best way to proceed. I'm still running JB4 Stage 1 with intake and like the results. Will be install the MPE muffler tomorrow for sound effects. Dinan Stage 2 software should be released by September which is my preferred method of running Stage 2 although it will be $1600 more than the JB4 Stage 2.

I don't know.. I kind of woke up feeling like I should be satisfied with Map 2 @ 14.5 psi. Again, I definitely do not want to start mixing gas, strictly trying to keep this running off of the best available pump gas.

I guess maybe my best path forward is to see what I am actually putting down now and determining whether I am happy or not.. and go from there..

I use the E85 app to calculate the fuel mixture. I can set the target in the app to "E35" and it'll tell me what I need to mix according to how much fuel I have left in the tank.

So I am back on Map 1 until I get and install the flex fuel harness. I had been having some lean conditions and I was getting bumped down to the stock-like map (map4). With the EWG harness apparently it is recommended to also run the flex fuel harness to get a better HPFP reading and to allow for finer AFR control. While I'm at it I think I will premix my local 93 with ~2 gallons of E85 to give me a net 95 octane.

I am now looking to dyno this setup next week. I plan on taking 6-7 runs on a dyno. 1 or 2 stock (jb4 completely disabled), 1 or 2 at Map 1 and a few at Map 2 - not necessarily in that order to really capture mod gains before heatsoak can start to set in.

I have the exact same mods as you just not the MPE and JB4 is sitting on the bench just waiting to be installed..

I am kind of worried about JB4... I just want to do something that is "set and forget" I saw that you had some issues running Map 2 and thats not something I want to deal with... So is it possible with JB4 just to do a simple "set and forget" or do I have to monitor my car constantly, mix gas and all hassle?

I mixed in 2 gallons of E85 along with 10 of 93 yesterday after I installed the FF wiring harness. The car no longer kicks me out of Map 2 during WOT conditions like it used to. My AFRs have settled out and the avg ign is closer to what it should be. Also hitting and holding ~14.5 psi through the mid-5000's before falling off.

One thing that has now been clarified : It is REQUIRED to run the Flex fuel wiring if you are running the EWG wiring with the JB4, even if you do not plan on mixing gas. This is critical because the flex fuel wiring allows the JB4 to properly monitor the high pressure fuel pump and also allows for finer air/fuel ration control. Otherwise, the JB4 will fail safe safety fault and kick you out to map4 (stock map).

Anyway, I am not sure if I plan on mixing gas on a regular basis. I did it now just to get things settled but after this dyno sometime next week I may just resort back down to 93 and see how the car feels and how the logs look. I'd say just get the EWG and FF wiring harness and run the proper fueling and you could set it and forget it on the auto-tune Map 5 (as it was intended to be).

Alz0rz thanks for yor detailed review...

Could you please tell me also how is the driving feel compared to stock?

Does the car behave consistent or suddenly there are hiccups...

Like I said I have all the boltons like you plus ER Intercooler and minus MPE... I like the way the car drives now... Just a bit more powerful but with more agressive sound due to the AFE Intake...

About the Cel for running catless it has not appeared fortunately... Only there is a DTC stored on the computer but NO CEL...

I would like to exploit the mods that I have done because they are probably not fully used by the stock tune... But I want perfect driveability... You think that maybe Map 1 without EWG will suffice?

Thanks!
JC

I have the BMS Intake and JB4 on Map 1, it runs perfectly, haven't had any trouble since I got the latest software update. Make sure if you do go JB4 that you have the right tune downloaded, I had some trouble at first after updating with the wrong map. I had the wrong maps and the car threw a couple engine codes. I've got the ER downpipe ready to install and just got the EWG harness, but apparently I'll have to order the flex fuel wires now.

Is it true that for Map 1 you dont need EWG harness? Also I am at 6,000 ft could that be an issue?
