You might want to read through this:

https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/lg/uq9000

Their review isn't very glowing about this TV. They do provide suggestions for other TVs in that category that they feel are much better.

I mean OLED is best picture quality. If you can afford it go OLED. However my point was if you go LED there are different types of LED like Samsung panels have QLED or LG calls it QNED etc. This is what you want if you go with LCD and not OLED.

Not sure if this is the LG we have at the FL house, if it is it's meh. I didn't research and know about the different LEDs when I bought it. The dark levels are shit so when we watch movies at night the bright blacks bother the fuck out of me. If going with an LG I would have gone with one that has their QNED display. However since you already got it I guess just see how it looks to you. What one person thinks is junk may look great to someone else. Like I said for me it's black levels, if it has dark black I'm good, not that picky about the rest.

Thanks for suggestions guys. I went cheap because we're in a recession and I'm trying to penny pinch. If the market gets better next year I'll upgrade. Appreciate everyone

Interesting. I have never heard that. I have always read that it was the result of a prolonged static image.

Sure, you go spend $50 on a fire stick or whatever, I’ll use native apps on the TV and buy a $50 bottle of rum to watch TV

Prolonged static images may contribute to burn in. But when you have things cranked all the way up, it's exacerbating the problem. It's simple really and something you can do yourself if you wish. Set a static image and then crank your brightness settings way up or choose a color mode such as vivid. Then see if there is a ghost image. Then repeat this again but with the brightness settings set to a more normal/lower setting. I'd bet any ghost image is less pronounced if there is anything at all.

Ex wife ruined my Pioneer 1010HD by not policing the remote from our daughter. She was pushing buttons and set the TV into some ultra vivid retina burning mode. I had zero burn in issues before this happened. Just having the mode change and a few hours of use caused permanent damage to various areas of the screen. This was after years of using this TV for regular TV programming with static images with no issues.

Guess my family is odd both my sisters don't have TV's and I have one. Older Sharp that's a lowly 1080 for movies and smaller than most tv sold these days, but it's not focal point in the house and granted I live alone.

Eventually the TV apps will die as the manufacturer doesn't support them well.

I’m not ready to upgrade but if I were, I’d go buy an LG C1. No further analysis required.

I have a ~10 year old Sony and none of them work anymore. Same with the Netflix app on my old Oppo. But, Fire Stick 4K is so cheap that if that happens to that guy I'll just toss it and move on, no need to replace TV unless I want to get a 4K in the living room too.

The TV has been purchased - thank you everyone for your contribution. I had a strict budget due to the major recession we are in.

YEah I had two TV's where the apps were horrible after 4 or 5 years, they were so unreliable. My telco/ISP actually provided me with a dongle that acts as an app hub as well as a guide for digital TV, works really well which is an odd thing to say about BELL I tell ya what.

My 65" LG OLED is only 2 years old, so maybe it's just newer tech. I like the fact that it's automatic as well, just like my PS4. Having said that, I still have issues getting some apps I want, so I'll have to do the Fire Stick.

Funny you should mention that, the program guide doesn't work on the Sony anymore either. I don't really have a workaround for that, although I do have a (1080) component tuner/DVR I could hook up if I watched a lot of OTA TV.

Then you buy a firestick after 4 or 5 years.

I don't see any reason to buy an adapter right off the bat while the TV is working fine. Plus in 4 or 5 years that firestick is also going to be old and probably need replacing.

All our primary TVs the apps work just fine. The oldest is an LG from around 2019. The older LG it replaced was at this point pretty useless when it came to apps. We moved that to the bedroom and have a firestick on it. We also have some olders TVs in other rooms and outside that were never even "smart" and those have sticks on them also.

Not suggesting you buy one right away but I wouldn't let the native app quality or the native app interface play any role at all in my tv buying decision.

I have a reason why a TV that supports an app I care about is important. I have a Plex server. There is content that I only have on my Plex server. While I can load the Plex app on a Firestick, I'm SOL if I need to play back audio encoded in DTS. Unless anything has changed, the only surround Codec the Firestick supports is AC3. I haven't played around with the high res Codecs through the Firestick. So don't know about that part.

I've also run into a weird issue with a Firestick I own. I loaded the VLC app and no matter what I tried in putting the URL for the stream I was trying to connect to, it wouldn't work. I had to go to a newer Firestick before I was able to access the stream.

I was a TV technician from 1977-1980. TVs are way different now, but the same thing is going on with expensive TVs. Lots of pain with many of them. Nowadays you can get a damn good picture on a $500 65in TCL from Costco, get the extra warranty and get a new TV when it breaks. Probably a better model too.
