For those mornings when you're really late...
This is a toaster. It toasts bread and bagels and such. It just does it quickly. But it's still just a toaster.

$350 for a toaster? We’re retired, are we ever really that late for anything?
Edit: Full disclosure, I developed celiac right before my 60th birthday in December so no more toast for me…

Sorry to hear about the celiac issue. That would suck. Wifey developed an allergy to even the tiniest bit of any dairy product when she was about 45. She was a big fan of cheese, too. No fun when something you love is suddenly off limits.

Agreed but there are worse things. The positive side is I’ve dropped a few pounds after dropping bread, pasta etc.

Nice to know that retired life eventually sinks in. After serving in the military for 22 years and planning to retire in 4 years from now, I often worry about being indoctrinated through discipline and punishment to be 15 mins early prior to report time would affect me once I hang up the uniform for the last time.
Good to know that eventually, you give in and just enjoy the schedule that works just fine for you!

I love retirement. I have plenty to do and I get to do it when I want at my own pace. Can't beat that with a stick.

Nice. I want just a simple toaster like that again. I like different things on toast; avocado, beans, etc. Not just butter and preserves. Toast is a staple in this house and tbh, I hate using a toaster oven to make it. Not doing it anymore. Getting me a simple toaster like the one pictured.

I finally got my network closet built. I've been slow working the setup, getting everything in place prior to moving the network gear, and then I got to the point where there was nothing left to do except the move. So I dedicated some days to that and got it done. Now I need to get back to laying walkways in the attic.

Here is the toaster we finally found that will make every "batch" the same.
I hate toasters that make the first round perfect and goes down hill from there. This sucker is built like a tank also. |

A quick note about toaster safety, though. We once had a simple drop-in toaster like the ones shown in this thread. They work by compressing a spring to engage the heating element. When the temp reaches a certain point, the latch releases and the spring pushes the tray back up, thereby cutting the heat. Our toaster would sit under the cabinets until we needed it and then we'd slide it out and make our toast. When it cooled, we'd slide it back under the cabinets. We never unplugged it, though. One day, Wifey was working in the kitchen when she smelled something burning. She found the toaster, which was under the cabinets, was super hot and heating the bottom of the cabinets. She unplugged it and pulled it out. After it cooled, we found that the spring had corroded and fallen apart, so the tray dropped to the bottom and engaged the heating element. It never would have turned off, because there was no spring left to push the tray back up. If she hadn't been in the kitchen or if we had been out of the house, we would have had a nasty fire. TL;DR - Always unplug your toaster when it's not being used.

I never heard of that happening to anyone, but from now on, I`m leaving my toasters unplugged when not being used. Thanks for the tip

I was using the copier or fax machine when I suddenly hear this loud noise. I'm like damn this is the loudest fax machine I've ever heard. Then a huge gust of winds starts coming through the office building (inside) now I'm like WTF is going here. Then finally I smell burnning.... oh shit my poptart!!! I run to the kitchen area to find what I'm guessing was the building maintenance guy standing there. He's like some jerk burnt their pop tarts and it triggered the fire alarm. I just looked at him and was like "Unbelievable! Some people!" and walked away. I'm guessing the wind I felt was part of the fire system. Anyways I'd toasted pop tarts in that toaster a million times so my guess is something on it broke and it just never popped. They got rid of the toaster after that day and never got another one. |
