2021 Running Goals

Whats Up Everyone! Wondering what running goals are out there for 2021. With 2020 canceling almost all running races it made for a tough year with so much training unused. Overall happy with my years performance, just tough with most annual PRs coming from running solo instead of racing besides the Marathon time. Would love to see some others times and goal races for 2021! Good luck out there!

2020 Annual PRs
Total Miles - 2,250
5k - 17:38
10k - 37:09
Half Marathon - 1:22
Marathon - 2:51

2021 Goals
Total Miles - 3,000
5k - 16:30
10k - 35:00
Half Marathon - 1:17
Marathon - 2:40
50k - Already Set For January 1st - 1st 50k for me!
50 Mile - Goal To Attempt In Spring
100 Mile - Goal To Attempt By Fall

Dlpfcb,
your stats are impressive, wow!

Myself about 1100-1200 miles. Won’t even tell u my half- marathon time which I did 3 Sunday’s back.

My goal for 2021 is to clock a single sub 7-minute mile on my local high school track.

Thank you, I truly appreciate it. I’m sure you will hit your goal though, 400-800 meter repeats will help with the speed to hit it. And keeping some 3-5 mile recovery runs in there. Running is a challenge whether your training for a 1 mile goal or a Marathon Goal. Trust me I completely understand. My last Marathon I told myself stay between 5:50 and 6:30 pace per mile....of course all goes as planned until mile 24...hit the wall and dropped to 7:20 and 7:30. Funny...I should have been happy putting up a good time but was so mad at myself for hitting a wall after 24 miles.

I would truthfully be like to be able to jog to the mailbox and back. I have a knee and hip injury that have ruined any sort of speed faster than Tippy the turtle

And get off my lawn!

So I haven't run for a long while now, I used to be religious about it. The funny thing is I prefer to run alone, I enjoy the peace and quiet alone with my thoughts, no music or any of that. I'd like to start running a little bit again, I've had some injuries along the way and been hard on my body so lots of aches and pains, knees, hips ankles back and neck. I go for a brisk walk for at least an hour everyday but would like to start getting a few short runs in so I know I'm not completely over the hill....I think that's my goal for 2021.

Good luck with yours. Happy New Year.

Definitely get the alone time part, the road and your thoughts. You should try that light jog. I'm sure it will spark some great memories.

I live at sea level. For NYE I was up at my dad's cabin, close to 7000' It has been a goal for a while to try to run "around the block" up there, the block being multiple variations in elevation, and about 3/4 mile. BIL and I walked this loop 1/2, it took us about 30 minutes. Ice was a bit of an issue though.

Elevation is a beast but oh so good for training.

Since my wife has decided she needs to walk, I've been taking her each night.

I generally feel GREAT for 2-3 days when I return to the ocean level. I try to get in at least one slightly longer run upon my return, to set a new point. But alas, even with just the walking 1.8 miles last night, the PF is acting up. SUCKS getting old(er)

Dang that’s brutal man. Have you tried weights for you legs. Squats with weight, lunges, single leg toe raises etc. 90+% of running or leg pains is from a muscle imbalance in the chain. Either hips, gluteus or hams. Something to try. You could also have flat arches causing your ankle to natural tilt in causing. But for PF I would do single leg raises on the edge of a stair 3 sets 3 times a day then add a little weight. Hope this helps man!

Weights (before the gym closed). I know my ITB on that side is fucked, there have been times over the last several decades when I would get just screaming pains in my hip from that dragging over the bone, at least that's the way it felt. Regular massage is brutal on my hips, but I'm back in tomorrow Hams have been a cramping issue since I was a teen (54) but have eased up in the last several years since I greatly increased Mag supplements.

I saw an ortho, he said there was a surgical procedure, but it just doesn't do much. His wife had it done, but he wouldn't recommend for me, and he wouldn't do it on me. He said there are others who would cut me open if I really wanted it.

I still PLAY soccer (at least before la 'Rona), but had to give up the referee position. I *thought* it was the changing direction as an AR, but that doesn't explain the pain of flat walking on sidewalks for less than 2 miles.

Cycling training usually precludes running throughout the full year, but with no real road racing in sight I may just get a lot more running done in 2021.

The only thing I've really thought about would be a sub 43:00 10k, but otherwise it would be nice like to get a second marathon done with no goal pace, and if it works out my first trail ultra.
