Porsche Macan EV

Porsche has released prices etc. for the new Macan EV. The base Macan 4 Electric lists at 78,800 and the Turbo Electric for 105,300 in the USA. There are the usual steep prices for options. Perhaps the most impressive detail to me is the WLTP range for the base model: 380 miles. The Turbo is estimated at 367 miles.

the macan was never a great looking car to begin with but now it looks absolutely horrible. Porsche getting lost in the sauce.

Really? I think it looks awesome. The prior gen is a great looking compact SUV as well.

I think it looks great and it seems that Porsche is giving us what we need in EVs, compared to others, IMO. If it’s a great driving experience, I won’t mind going to EV.

Love my ‘21 macan, but this ev version will depreciate 40% in the first 3 years; bet. Love the styling, though; and strangely, this color.

Folks driving BMW SUV's are living in glass houses and best not be tossing stones at any Porsche.

My 2019 Cayenne has depreciated more than that in just the 2 years I've owned it so....

First thing I noticed on the Macan BEV configurator is more leather-in-color square inches than the facelift 9Y0.2 Cayenne. In Cayenne the rear center seat is black, for nearly all non-black leather color options. Obvious cost cutting by Porsche. There are many other areas of cheapening Porsche implemented in .2 Cayenne.

Macan BEV on the other hand has full leather in color for all seating positions for all leather color choices.

The point is that Porsche is packaging the Macan BEV with more attractive options, and de-contenting ICE Macan and Cayenne. A future "large BEV" SUV is coming from Porsche, and it's expected the available option content will be quite good.

Porsche is positioning its BEV products in such a way to entice consumers to overlook the objections of propulsion differences, e.g. ICE vs BEV.

I had high hopes for the Macan EV and have always admired the styling of the ICE version since it was a nice looking CUV. Now that the EV one has arrived, in many angles it resembles a jazzed up VW Beetle. The sloped trunk doesn’t look as good as the ICE version. I’m sure it will sell like hotcakes due to it being one of the most affordable Porsche now in EV form.

Might I point out the paradox here. Leather interior in a "planet saving" EV?
Now me I like cow in all its glorious configurations, Roasted, Grilled, Barbecued, Braised and in my cars leather seats and door panels. Ain't nature wonderful?

How about owning an EV AND a 12mpg diesel guzzling behemoth wrapped in dead cow? Let your neurons chew on that for a while.

First image: Barrique (burgundy) Cayenne ICE "club leather" (optional, more expensive) leather interior.

Black second-row center seating area is a cost-cutting fail by Porsche on the 9Y0.2 Cayenne.

Second image: Red Macan BEV "normal" leather interior.

Seems like having two different color leathers would cost more but it is a weird thing to see

I’ve been a fan of the design/look of the Macan and I can live with the front even though it’s not great, but the butt looks like crap!!

Black leather panels are common part numbers across all Cayennes. This makes anything common (black) cheaper on a per-square-inch basis. Mass production philosophy. Panels are stitched together by seat suppliers, the seat supplier ships the seat assembly to Bratislava. The seat supplier bill of material is cheaper by virtue of more parts with high volume (black) and lower cost.

Was at the Porsche dealership recently and the salesman literally told me *not* to buy a Porsche EV since they drop in value so incredibly quickly.

The thing is -- Big picture -- we need to wean ourselves off of fossil fuels. But, in my opinion, we don't yet have the technology to make that happen. Not that a lot of talented people aren't working on the problem.

EVs are in their infancy and battery tech improves every generation. If you want new its best (and probably cheaper) to lease.

Most 2020 Taycan's have lost 50% of their MSRP at this point:

I’m def interested in a Taycan turbo S once they hit $60k. Might not be much longer at this rate.
