Should I sell my E31 and get a Porsche 964?

Hi there guys. Since I have always been a huge 911 fan I am thinking about getting one. I am talking about the newer ones. The reason I ask and I know its a long shot since its a Porsche forum but I am afraid I would miss the BMW. My heart has been always beating for the Porsche but I have never owned one.
Also would would you say Porsche is better than BMW?
There is one thing that I have been thinking.
I have BMW e31 850 "CSI" as I had all moved from a crashed CSI into my 850 and I love it. I have put actually crazy heart into and and a lot of love At the moment I am having mixed feelings and some might say afraid of owning 2 cars.
What would you do? Give me good arguments
Sell the BMW and get the 911?
A friend of mine said that when I would get the 911 I would just forget about the BMW.
Another friend that actually owns both said to own them both.
So What would you do?

I love the e31. I assume you know its maintenance history and trust it to start right up every time and get you where you need to go without worrying. Will you have the same faith in a 25+ year old Porsche that you don't know who had it or what they did (or did not) do to it before it got to you?

I sold my Z4MC last fall and bought a 993, black on black. I've been wanting one for a long time and finally could afford to pull the trigger. It's a different car to drive but I love it. I got it from the largest Porsche dealer in North America, it has a pretty complete service history, the dealer did a bunch of work on it, $14K all in and gave me a 1 year warranty. Life is short, if you lust after a 911 then you need to think about it,

I used to drive a 964 and can give you some info. It's virtually a hand built car the front fenders are formed by hand on rollers (kind of kills me when I see what RWB and Singer do to 964's), the steering is one of the best if I recall correctly it's not power assisted. The dash and carpet and seat material are 'old school' quality. The distance from windshield to steering wheel to your face is close and it's so unique. The car is a great commuter car, it's narrow and the 246hp allow you to dart through traffic.
There is an upgrade on the twin distributors a rubber belt deteriorates from ozone so that upgrade is vital, valves get adjusted manually I believe they are not hydraulic. It's a swing arm rear suspension and when the rear end lets loose it's heart pounding. It goes through rear tires like every six-thousand miles !! The car has an engine fan that runs when the car is turned off and the battery is in the front and if the car does a lot of sitting then a battery tender is needed. It takes nearly 11 quarts of oil.
A friend had an RS that was in an accident, rear end impact - listen ! there is no one in the Americas that knows how to repair structural body damage on a 911, the car has to go back to Germany - and that's the thing, you can't buy one that's been crashed, I might be exaggerating, but not by much.
Anyway, those are the things I remember about the 964. I considered a new Cayman in 2014, I tell you honestly that when I tested the M235 it felt more special then the Cayman (not a Cayman S).

Correction: it does have power assisted steering.

I would keep your BMW and go find yourself a nice 964.

I think in a year or two when the new 8er comes out... your car will start to rise in price. And it will be even harder to find a good clean example like your current 850csi with the six speed manual and the ///M v12 engine is quite rare. You really ought to hang onto it.

I know you're not saying that car cost you only $14k... is that how much work was done?

My bad, the dealer spent over $14K prepping the car. New clutch etc., brakes, some other minor maintenance parts that were worn, new Pirelli tires, detailed the shit out of it, the paint looks like new. I can't say enough about the dealership. Pfaff in Vaughan Ontario is fantastic.

If you get the P car, put your BMW into storage for a year. Odds are you'll start to miss it, and end up selling the Porsche, but if not, you're only out the storage fees. I've read more heartfelt tales of loss around selling old favorite cars than I could count. And you'll need a second car for the 'few times' it ends up in the shop.

But now that I can load pics, that Porsche is pretty f'ing awesome, so I can understand the temptation - talk about first world problems...

Tough decision to make. Not so sure I would give up that 850! Absolutely stunning and amazing car, but as RABAUKE stated....If your lusting after the Porsche, you may want to give it a thought.
