E60 no audio output from I-Drive, pdc or check control messages, warnings etc

Hi there,

Per title/subject, having some audio issues with our E60. Its a RHD UK/GB car.
Done about as much self knowledge diagnosis and Googling since the problem arose in the last 24 hours. So time to leverage forum power!
I've tried searching for German and English keywords but not found any specific solutions or patterns yet. Plenty of reports of the issue in both languages.

I'd love to hear about any ideas/tips/solutions, it would be much appreciated!

Problem: no audio output from I-Drive, non of the audio functions appear to be working.
All I-Drive functions (apart from audio output) are working as expected
Audio output from the radio, cd, tv, navi do not work. No audio output from PDC peeps or check control messages, such as seat-belt, fuel or lights.
Bluetooth works and input audio is transmitted but no output audio.

The car was in for oil service and system update at a trusted source. They reported the issue after the system update.
I couldn't leave the car with them to finish the diagnosis and repair, so for now, its on me to find a solution.

The car is fitted from factory with the pro audio/navi/comms package, including split screen I-Drive.
The car also has the logic 7 speakers and amp fitted.

The only oddity I've spotted in the I-Drive is, normal CD's play time counter increments as expected.
Whereas the MP3 CD's we've got are recognised, show track listings and you can hear the CD seek to songs but the play time counter don't increment

* I've tried the hard I-Drive reset (eject/volume) countless times and its reset but not helped
* I've tried the reset option under the tone settings menu, no joy
* No amount of fiddling with the audio/tone settings helps
* No amount of fiddling with the dash based audio on/off volume knob helps
* No amount of fiddling with the steering wheel audio controls helps

After some sleep and when its daylight, I'll be checking and replacing FUSES. Fun.
I'll also get a look at the amp in the boot and check cabling but that is a long shot.

The fuses that could be suspect that come to mind from the fuse card:
Glove box: Audio System #34
Boot/Trunk: Headphone? #77,#80 - could be for headrest tv/display which we don't have?
Boot/Trunk: I-Drive #79
Boot/Trunk: PDC #69
Boot/Trunk: Radio/Amp #73

Any tips would be much appreciated!!

UPDATE

The aforementioned fuses have been removed, checked and refitted. No help!

Negative terminal on the battery disconnected for just over 30 mins this evening. No change everything perfect except audio output is still not there. Took the car for a nice little run afterwards and everything was great.

What struck me as odd, only some minor climate prefs appeared to be lost/reset and the time was reset. The date and most prefs appear untouched. Which stuck me a little weird. I thought everything would go back to factory default.
Perhaps a longer disconnect could be needed for all settings to be reset? Or perhaps the key uploads the majority of settings?

I've read a lot more on the subject of electric's and audio in the E60. Including the fibre optic MOST BUS and friends.
I'd like to try a MOST BUS reset but it not yet clear if that is possible on an E60? I've certainly not located a MOST BUS reset situation which is found in the E65

I've also read about reports of the same issue (including after an update) which has been potentially solved by software update/reloading.
A term that comes up a lot with updating/reloading is 'recoding' and the fact everything must coded correctly post update in order to work correctly.
Perhaps that is what is wrong?

I've also read about people with busted amps who've done some workarounds which are interesting but not the solution I want.

I've also read about people getting amps sent off for repair and having success but my gut tells me its software not hardware.

Any further thoughts or suggestions welcome.

Looks like its going to have to go to a specialist to be diagnosed and perhaps reprogrammed and recoded?!

I'll keep this updated as things change

Cheers

INFO: The BMW Logic 7 amps appear to be Becker, which appears to be manufactured by Harman/Kardon - Harman-Becker.

---

Latest reading online and troubleshooting in the car suggests the AMP might be OK and could be a programming/coding issue.

This could be wrong, but it seems that people suffering from a bad amp are having a hard time or aren't able to adjust the eq settings or the surround/l7 environment settings.

I'm able to access all of the tone settings and change them, including the eq and surround/l7 settings.

So I guess the next action is try get the car to a workshop with the expertise on hand to run the right kind of tests and diagnostics on car, especially the MOST bus and the audio components and check exactly what is going on.

I've also being reading more about a 'vehicle order' process whereby the car is hooked up the BMW network and left to programme every single module in the car can be 90+? This can take overnight. I get the feeling this process might do some good to get all the components talking again but not sure yet. I get the impression that was what was done to the car in the first instance and it din't work out right for the audio bits.
Being a B5, need to clarify if this can only been done at ALPINA HQ in DE or not.

I've read mixed reports about weather the amps are plug and play or need coding/programming. From what I've read I think the amps are plug and play BUT of course the system as a whole needs to be programmed for it.

Any further ideas/insights welcome.

Based on some insights over at Bimmerfest, http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=492416

I think either reprogramming HOPEFULLY or a repaired/replacement amp is needed.

I'll keep this up to date with how it goes
