ppf or not???

Wondering if be worth ppf front bumper and bonnet only use car weekend and probably do about 3000 miles a year .heard some bad stories about bad ppf jobs thinking for all miles do would be as cheap getting front bumper painted after couple years any option would help

100% do ppf. If you dont drive many miles because youre trying to preserve and protect the car, make sure its protected. Find a reputable shop, read reviews. Modern paints are pretty soft and get rock chips very easily.

It depends on how you use the car and where you live. I've had a couple of painful rock chips here in the Northeast and I always do it now at least for the front end and the rear fenders. Also, if you are planning to track the car, it gives you peace of mind. Just find a good reputable Xpel shop and you should be good. It comes with a lifetime warranty too.

I've had cars with PPF (either used or dealer installed before I had a chance). I would never pay to have it done - I don't like how it looks, I don't like how the edges can catch dirt, they are not foolproof, and they can often cause troubles when you remove them if they get too old and brittle.

That said, I understand the appeal for the people who want to keep their car pristine, but in my experience, a car is going to get damaged regardless of what you do to protect it. Wheels, windshield, paint, trim, if you drive it, that's what's going to happen. And I drive my cars. No garage queens here.

Don't save it for the next guy.

Save your money, buy some touch-up paint (as you tried to do in a different thread) and if it looks real bad in 20 years, have it repainted.

Personally I would actually do PPF on metal sections of the car that are difficult to repaint (metal A pillars, quarter panel above the side skirt, roof). However if you only drive the car on the weekends you will probably never get chips in those areas anyways, and the car will depreciate all the same.

Here in SoCal, doing the full car is a 10k hit, front only is like 3.5k.
Just a few years back, I think full car was 5k and I thought that was already a lot.

Like many said it depends on your use. If it's a weekend fair weather cruiser and you don't typically tailgate other folks, it might not make much sense.

I've done full front on mine and specifically looked for a shop that customized the cut and wrapped all the edges where possible. I previously had a standard XPEL cut on wife's SUV and this new/improved install is 10x better imho. Now, I do not anticipate G80 being a collector car in 20 years like some 911's, but if you end up having a really low mileage one in 15 years, having original paint might be a very beneficial factor to its value.

I have thought about it, but never done it. Probably the only way I'd do it would be for a stealth look, but I love the color too much to hide it.

Naw, I don't think its worth it. It stops chips but for $7-10k for a good job, that has to get redone if someone clips it or dings it. I'll rather have a set a wheels or other mods. Repaint it in 10 years if I still got it.

I was in two minds, but for £1800 to do the bonnet, front bumper, rear bumper, wings, side sills, all pillars and fuel cap thought what the hell. No regrets here, especially as the guys that did it laser cut each piece in house, so you can’t see it’s there. After 2.5k miles, the number of stone chips was eye watering. The paint on modern BMW’s is so soft, it’s a no brainer.

Haha yea. I do occasionally debate getting it done out of state and driving it back. Would be a fun excuse to drive around diff parts of country but post-install warranty work will get tedious, just in case..

As mentioned in your other thread, Brooklyn Grey. BMW does not yet sell touchup paint for Brooklyn Grey so definitely get PPF!

You don't have to go that far. Come to sf bay area! The shop I used does full stek for half the cost of what you quoted!

One of my friends who just took delivery of a 2023 Brooklyn Grey, M3 competition had full Xpel PPF and ceramic done here in North Miami for $5500. I do not understand why it is so expensive where you live?

He had the work done at the same shop where I did my Z4 and they did a beautiful job! 👍🏻

You will regret if you don't PPF. I decided not to PPF and went with a paint correction and ceramic coating instead. Now my front bumper and hood are riddled with chips. I will have to get the whole bumper repainted.

What shop in North Miami are you talking about? I use Detail Boutique in West Miami. They are pretty expensive.

Having worked FOR YEARS with people who say what you just said, for EVERY SINGLE ONE who left the ppf on longer than five years, they had to get the whole bumper repainted ANYWAY. Cause it ruins the paint if you leave it on that long (or peels it off, etc.)

That being said, OP, if you can afford to replace it frequently enough, those people are happy. If you expect PPF to be the "end all solution forever" you're better off taking care of the finish the way BMW intended it.

Just been my experience.

I wont argue with you there. Painting my bumper will cost less than a PPF too.
