Vacation Ideas for August

My gf, her best friend and her best friend's husband are coming to DC from Arizona in the beginning of August. We were planning on going to the Bahamas for five days, but we're having some passport issues so that's off the table.

We've been throwing around a couple ideas for a vacation spot. We are open to flying or driving and any combination thereof. So far we're thinking about Boston then to the Cape; maybe Rhode Island; Maine; the Outer Banks, Charleston, etc. Open pretty much to anything.

We are looking for something pretty laid back, but nice. Budget is 400 a person getting to/from the location and max 350 a night for a hotel.

Any suggestions or recommendations? Or perhaps some places we should avoid? Thanks guys.

Cancun / Mexican Carribean (since you guys were planning on going to Bahamas). Just went there last weekend for my first time and had a blast.
It's gona be humid/hot in Aug but once you get in the water you forget all about it.

I don't recommend either of the two above mentioned places.....Mexico and Jamaica are both pretty dangerous for tourists....Jamaica especially, stay FAR away from Kingston.

im in marthas vineyard right now. its off of the cape. i would say dont come here cause its cold and the weather sucks lol

Go to Hilton Head SC, Very nice place and laid back. I'm going in mid August.

He's having passport issues, he can't leave the country.

That the Moon Palace in Cancun? I seem to forget drinking a LOT of Cuba Libres by that covered section in the water.

That's looks pretty awesome - but with the passport issues I think it's off the table. Maybe next year.

I think we considering Hilton Head, Charleston, and Cape Cod. I've never been to HH or CC, but I'm sure we would like both.

My bad, I did not read carefully the OP's post about his passport issues.

No that is the Hilton, very nice hotel would recommend it.

nice! i was looking into CABO in august but the idea of it being a ghost town there right now really makes me think twice. dirt cheap prices though.
