Has anyone stopped drinking, if so please explain

I think that drinking, at least, for me, is a waste. I am trying to cover a massive inferiority complex. I am also trying to forget horrible things that I can't change about myself. Sometimes I tell myself, that by drinking, I am just enlightening myself e.g. just getting a better understanding of what has happened to me and what I should do.

However, I think I need to stop. I know it helps me understand things better in that state because it lessens my anxiety and allows me to think for myself because I have always been beaten up by family members and others. It all allows me to escape into my own world and decrease my inhibitions which are vast.

My question is has anyone had a similar ephinany? Has anyone stopped and felt better even if they have or are going through many hardships, dissapoints, and a level of hurt or betrayal. Please answer, I need some insight.

it's not unbearable, I am just wondering what I should do. I do not have a family or a true friend to talk to this situation about. I just need people to share their experiences if they are man enough to do so without trying to insult me.

Go to an AA meeting. That is where you can find the support you need.

Hit the gym and be serious about your gains. That helped me quit smoking as well.

All i understand here is that there is something going on with alcohol. Maybe if I get drunk, and reread the OP, maybe I'll get what the point is.

That is pretty much my route. Stopped drinking and eating crappy food and started working out on a regular basis. I call it a change of lifestyle.

^ LOL. To the OP, you need to find something worth making the sacrifice for. For me? it was a $4k bass guitar. With how much I'd spend on drinking, I could afford that bass in one year. So thats exactly what I did. I pooled my drinking money (not touching alcohol) and I bought it instead. Its been a bit over a year and I never looked back. no reason to hit the bottle again. You need to find something very much worthwhile to quit drinking for: and everytime you're about to pick up that bottle again, think about what you're working for/fighting for.

It has to be something huge thats REALLY worth it for you. Eventually you're psychological dependence (and chemical dependence) on alcohol will diminish (this takes at least three weeks to have a noticeable effect) then from there the urges become less and less.
DO NOT give in and say "well I've been sober for a month, I deserve to get trashed"... since the second you do, you'll find another reason to allow the old pattern to begin again.. and over and over again.
For me: It was only drinking a bit on a Friday and a Wednesday, then a Friday only (this was gradual over weeks) Then just Friday alone... from there? every second Friday.. then less and less and less. At that point; the decision is entirely yours to just quit drinking.

I can relate: I've had horrendous problems with woman my whole life.. which hurts me a lot: even today. But drinking is not going to change anything, or make the problems go away... they just compound them. Knowing that I (and you for your reasons) have to understand that drinking doesn't answer anything, it just makes you forget about the problem until you sober up. Which is obviously pointless in the grande scheme of things isn't it?

Also, tell your friends and family that you have a problem, and to not ever put you in any situation whereas you'd be pressured to drink: or would have alcohol around you. Triggers such as those can and very much will put you right back into drinking again. True friends will appreciate the struggles you have: and will not bring you into bars/pubs or any other situation where you'd be very much inclined to drink.

I can post more, but I wont unless what I said makes sense or is at all helpful.

If you think you should quit, quit.

In college I went 6 months without a drop of alcohol. Next Lent I'm giving up drinking. No reason except to see how it makes me feel.

I drink every 2-4weeks. I find that the excessive weight gained associated from drinking just isn't worth it.

Not to mention the money. A $100 would be down the drain easily on a Friday or Saturday night out at the local bar.

Jeez, even when I used to drink a 12pack everyday, I was still in incredible shape with a build & CUT physique. I'm surprised how it affects some people.

I wholeheartedly agree on the money aspect though. Most people would be truly amazed at the spare cash flow they have when they completely eliminate drinking from their activities.

I drink almost every hour, I think I have a problem too, but probably not the same as yours. I get so thirsty and all I can think of doing is drinking....not to mention it's right there!

I don't know what do either....but I'm pretty sure if I don't drink water I'll die....

:

Sorry OP, I just had to.

On a more serious note, I've lost my close cousin to drinking, not to mention another distant friend. If not for yourself, atleast think about others whom you will hurt if god forbid something were to happen to you.

If you're looking to stop drinking, I would highly recommend reading the work of Julia Ross (book "Food Cure" and "Mood Cure"). She successfully uses amino acid supplementation for a whole host of addictions as they serve to reestablish the disconnect between the brain and body that occurs with types of issues. The amino acid l-glutamine is exceptional at eliminating both alcohol and sugar cravings (both carbohydrate based).

You never become enlightened by drinking poison. If you're not eating properly, you won't heal from anything (mental or physical).

I have switched to Puerto Vallart Blanco Tequilla. I had some tonight and will be drinking tomorrow at my brother's apartment as he is on a vacation. I am sick of beer. It's getting annoying. I appreciate all the replies. I have taken good notice of the advice and understand that drinking is not an answer, only an escape. I hope to try to stop for at least three months.
