HAHA, those are great, especially when refrigerated. I go nuts on them when I go back to the homeland, Bangkok.
They do sell them here though, but you gotta go to a Thai market. English name...they're called rambutans. You should also try out durians..also very yummy |

This looks EXACTLY like my balls when i have allergies...they turn red like that, and im asian so the hairs grow in patches like that too...
I eat these all the time when i go back home...they taste great, but only if the flesh doesn't stick to the pit, makes it annoying

Tastes very similar to lychee and longan. At least to me. The Malaysian restaurants here have Rambutan drinks.

OP, you are in NY right? I may be mistaken, but I believe I have seen them at Wegman's, if there is one near you it might be worth checking.

Nah- dragon fruit is completely different (kind of the same texture as kiwi) but this is more like lychee. There's an online market that sells exotic fruits but I forgot the name of it. Gotta love Asia though- for example in Vietnam you could rent a whole orchard to your self (and family) and just eat all you want. Best of all it costs like $20-30.
