Ha! True for you maybe, but it's a rare thing for me to see one, much less the pair I saw last week. I guess I could have said last one of my series

I need to get up to Klamath, where they have dozens of nesting pairs. They have a big event up there in February for eagles.

I stood up well to a pretty HUGE crop. I can see only a small artifact of the sharpening needed. The ole 7D2 produces a really nice file.

What I don't get is how the file is still 2396pX2995p, even after the crop. Looking at the original file, I would have guessed that it would be less than 1,000p.

LoL, I guess I should have been more specific. It is a different picture of the same hawk. Actually taken from the same spot, but with a different camera, as you would notice the first shot was with a 5d3, versus the 7D2 on the second.

That would be a damn impressive crop, but I think i would need your fancy 5DSR to pull that off. Hmmm, I haven't bought a camera in over a year...

Me too, LOL! I was thinking, "Holy Crap! How'd he do that?"

Loved my 5D3, but haven't touched it since I bought the 5DSR. Prices are down a bit, so time to move. Check out prices at www.cameraCanada.com The prices shown are in Canadian $, so divide by 1.40 and you get a substantial discount. I and friends have used them several times over the last few months, all with happy results. (You get a "North American" warranty, just like in the USA).

Lots of people worry about the body out-resolving their lenses. That's NOT an issue. It's exactly the same resolving power as the 7D2, just on a larger sensor.

I will have to see after my taxes get done. I actually sold my Tacoma this weekend and ordered a new pickup, so I have to prioritize some things as far as gear lust goes...as usual

Man, I really want to get some good kite shots. I don't even see them here. I love that hunting pose. Reminds me of the way a harrier hunts. Are their hunts similar?

Not really. More like a kestrel hunts. The kites pick a spot and just hover over it for 10 to 30 seconds, looking down below them, and fly at altitude to a different spot if they don't see anything, but they stay up around 20 feet or so in the air, versus the harrier down in the weeds.

If they see a critter, they do this silent dive down on them that looks really cool. You need to spend a little more time out here in the bay area, they are actually pretty common.

Nice diving shot.

With a daughter in SF, I get there regularly, so maybe we can schedule an outing soon.

That could be fun Dave, although I will say that the optimum raptor season is coming to a close. September through January are the best months, except for Osprey, which will start arriving to nest around late March.

But anytime you have spare time in the area, let me know, I can always figure something out.

My next likely visit is next fall, so we'll see.

Hi Guys,
Just nicely back after 10 days in Madeira (for a bit of winter sun and warmth). Some great shots posted recently, especially that X5M and also Ed's railway shot.

Anyway here's one from a serious walk we did last Wednesday - taken from the summit of Pico Ruivo (1862m / 6108ft), looking down through the clouds into the Ecumenda Valley, around 3000ft below.

Some serious depth to this photo, really nicely done!
