What's Your Attachment Style

In true OT fashion I thought I'd share this quiz with you all. My wife and I took the quiz yesterday. It's good to know how you approach relationships currently, and your style can change over time

https://quiz.attachmentproject.com/

According to the field of attachment theory, each person has a unique attachment style that informs how you relate to intimacy: secure, anxious, avoidant and a small subset who are anxious-avoidant.

Research has shown that even just knowing about the four attachment styles can positively influence your relationships. "It helps people become more secure," says Levine, who is a psychiatrist and neuroscientist at Columbia University.

And though you may not have a choice in which attachment style you have, it's not just up to you to address it — other people have a role to play too. "It's something that happens in the space between two people. They think, 'Oh, I have this attachment style, so I have to fix it by fixing myself.' But it's a relational thing," says Levine.

He recommends creating a "secure village"— surrounding yourself with secure people as a way to make yourself more secure.

Just a heads up, in order to get your results you will need to provide your email at the end.

*No - it tells your style without giving any email info - if you want more details then yes give them your email

I'm fairly certain it tells you your attachment style without asking for your email address. I believe if you want the report that tells you where your attachment style details are per your Mom, Dad, Spouse then you have to enter your email.

I also got secure, brought back some old memories as well. I shared it with my sisters. My wife got anxious/preoccupied, sister got anxious. I was surprised mine was secure. It isn't a good or bad thing so much as it's important to be aware.

I got disorganized/ fearful avoidant, but there is an issue with the quiz.

I was raised by a single mother, so I have no link to a father figure, but you need to answer the questions, and it sways heavily if you answer them. There is no “single parent version”

I'm actually a bit surprised, but I got secure. I can be an anxious person so I expected to get that result. Heard of this test before but hadn't taken it til now!

Yeah I had to kind of play with it and throw some stuff in from experience with a stepfather since dad was awol when I was young.

Hence my original comment, some stupid survey online that only exists to get your email address isn't going to be of value. Hell, most of them are trash. The worst though is the Meyers-Briggs because some idiots think that shit is real enough to use on employees and shit.

I think the questions are a bit over-simplified for what the test is trying to determine granted, it is one of those online tests, so I get why the questions are structured the way they are. It's pretty easy to know how to answer each question in order to get a specific result. Not sure if this test will even point you in the right direction. It's similar to taking one of those tests where your IQ is determined by how many hidden animals you can find in a picture within 30 seconds.

Males will tend to be avoidant. Females will tend to be anxiously attached. The majority of the population will not have a secure attachment style due to being raised all fucked as a kid.

I am disorganized, so I frequently kick my gf out of my house while screaming while simultaneously asking what she wants for dinner moments later. Great relationship.

I got secure too and not really surprised. Except I thought the answers to questions about my dad might throw a haymaker into the mix because he was a bad man. Everything else, my mom, wife, were all positive answers.

I don't know but I've always been a fan of velcro. Super velcro is awesome in a pinch in the field.

The ACES quiz is a good one for understanding how much a friend, spouse or even yourself is dealing with regarding trauma.

Anxious/preoccupied. Fits the bill. Spent my 20s chasing my career, moving from one city to the next, doing pointless fucboy stuff, and never committing to either of my exes who actually loved and cared for me.

Wising up and maturing now I think. Very lucky my parental support system was as perfect as one could wish for. By nature I'm an opportunist always looking for the "next best thing" in life. That leads to commitment-phobe behavior.

Me too, I dunno how I feel about that.

Then again, I don't care too much about this and rather not find out more.

Srsly, what kinda term is that to tack onto a person, "You're DISMISSIVE/AVOIDANT, deal w it!!"
