Wild turkeys pecking car
There are a bunch of wild turkeys that roam the neighborhood and seem to enjoy my across the street neighbors front yard. I never really thought about them other than maybe thinking that someone must be putting some type of food out because lots of birds and squirrels seem to congregate on said lawn.
Anyway, I'm at my sister's house last night having dinner - she lives in walking distance from me - and my brother in law shows me a video on his phone. It's wild turkeys in a driveway around an X6. I recognize the pavers and the car. It's my neighbor, two doors down. They proceed to surround the car and peck the hell out of it. He tries to shoo them away to no avail. He then pans the area to show my X6 sitting in my driveway. A friend of mine years back had wild turkeys ding the hell out of his Vette from pecking at it. I'll go nuts.... Any ideas how to keep them away, short of shooting them?

I have had them peck at my truck. It is black and was nice and polished up. They were defending their area...
as far as keeping them away, don't feed them. We had been feeding them in the front yard, 5 acres and a surrounding 50+ acre area. Stopped that and they stopped coming around the house as much. So, I would bet there is some food source near by, like you mentioned. Oh, and I do have a new dent from the peck, at least one.

They are more and likely after Acorns. I have lots of oaks in my yard and the deer and turkey flow to those trees for the acorns. You could probably try keeping them all swept up, but that would be a real chore.

I don't have any acorns on my property, but there are a lot of old Oaks across the street on the property where they frequent. I was reading about peppermint oil and some other things they don't like. I'm not sure how useful that would be or how long it would last if I sprayed it on the concrete driveway pad or if it would hurt the grass.

Not sure if this will help, but just across the street from my house there is a nice big pond, and it attracts f'n Canadian geese who are shitting machines. While our cars are garaged, they did cross the street to eat our grass and of course, shat everywhere.
So I went on Amazon and found these shiny round metal reflector plates that you stick in your yard - apparently the wind blows them so the light refracts off them in different directions....sonuvabitch, they worked - no more geese! Here is what we used: Bird Scare Discs If you further search on Amazon for similar items, they come in all kinds of different shapes, sizes, etc. Hope this helps. |

Why the living hell do they pack the cars????
I am dead set at Caddyshack levels of angst with Wood peckers on my stucco, and yes I have had the house checked, there's nothing there attracting them other than once one started it drew a territorial fight. Absolute mother fucking nightmare, these fuckers are intolerable. |

As for turkeys I see them in the back yard frequently. It butts up to a large wooded area so I'm sure there's all kinds of stuff back there for them to eat. However if they started pecking my car.... |

Damn, another thing to f**k with your car. First it was computer problems, then they were repaving the roads around your home and then at your work, now these crazy wild turkeys. Is a guard dog out of the question?

I'm just trying to come up with a way to keep them away. The video was tough to watch. You can hear their beaks hitting the metal. I cringe when I watch it.

I have recently seen videos of them taking over Staten Italy.
Wonder if one of these would help? https://www.bugasalt.com/pages/shop-...ions#threezero |

No, my garage is really small. And the previous owner put up shelves along the side wall which make it narrower. It's pretty organized. I guess if I did something with the shelves I could get in it. Right now my snow blower is very comfortable in the garage while my car is outside

Do people not regularly walk their dogs in your neighborhood? Or is this turkey business happening at odd hours? |
