I believe he said Stage 4 pancreatic cancer , which is very bad news. <10% survival rate. But I hope he beats the odds!

It's just awful news. Lost my grandmother to it. She was cruising around enjoying life up until a week before she died. No idea she even had it, or, she hid it VERY well. With a 10% survival rate it would be a tough choice for me. Treat aggressively and have a 90% chance of death and a 100% chance of being absolutely F'ing miserable for the last months of my life. Or, accept the hand I've been dealt and enjoy the last days to the fullest, without all the chemo and other treatments, and probably feel pretty good for 90% of those last days. Theres an excellent chance one could be laying in a hospital bed, bald, barfing, and losing the battle. Thinking to one's self "I could be a on beach right now sipping a fruity cocktail and playing with the grandkids." I respect the Hell out of those who choose to fight. I dont know that I'd have it in me.

He's a class act for coming out with this public announcement. As stated, it's a very low survival rate, but I hope he's able to beat it. If not, he's had a great life and the face of the highest rated game show for 35 years. Pretty amazing run.

Tough diagnosis but a class act in how he revealed it. I watch Jeopardy and for the past few years have felt he should retire; seems to have a bit more edge and be kind of snarky to contestants. But I wouldn’t wish this on him. If continuing to work is part of his “treatment” plan, work on!

I heard about this yesterday. Very sad. I really enjoyed watching Jeopardy for many years. I didn't realize he was 78.

Lost my mom to stage 4 breast cancer, and after seeing the suffering (both mental and physical) that she endured after chemo it definitely changed my perspective on fighting it.

My view on stage 4 cases is enjoy your last days with your family and friends, especially with pancreatic cancer.

This may be a harder decision for some that have younger kids. It's a double edge sword either way you look at it.

From what I understand, the outlook for this type and stage are not optimistic and whether he decides to enjoy whatever time he has left or to pursue aggressive treatment, which is what I believe he plans to do, I wish him the best.

Jeopardy is a great show with many iterations in other countries and has been a staple of "smart" entertainment in many households across the world, with all the nonsense that is broadcast nowadays we need more programming that challenges and engages the viewer.

Stay classy, Trebek.

The message was so selfless imo, he didn't make it about himself and stated things like "50,000 other people get diagnosed with it a year too". I hope he beats the odds too, just not right to go out that way after all he's done

Is it possible to enjoy what time you have left though? Knowing you are going to die would probably fuck up most peoples state of mind. I'm sure there are people out there who could, but honestly I don't know if I could.

Damn, i’m really sorry for him. And impressed at his courage.

My aunt was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, not sure which stage. She was gone a week after the diagnosis

It's definitely bleak. I also applaud him for how he came out publicly with his diagnosis. I can tell you from personal experience doing something such as this at the beginning of this horrendous journey takes a lot of courage. I chose to only tell certain people of my diagnosis the two times I had to deal with cancer.

A family friend's relative went through stage 4 pancreatic cancer. He was able to beat the odds some what by surviving about 2 years after diagnosis. He did make the most of it and immediately started to travel and experience the world.

A friend of mine managed to survive about 20 years post her stage 4 breast cancer diagnosis. She fought like crazy and always had a positive attitude. She was my rock when I was going through tough times and I miss her dearly.

Another famous person that died from stage 4 pancreatic cancer was Patrick Swayze. Such a shame.

Terrible disease! Took my dad back in 2014. He lived for five months after the diagnosis but man the chemo was brutal. Can’t say I would make that decision but could definitely understand someone who chose to skip the treatment and enjoy their remaining time. His last night on this earth he asked my mom how much longer he had to do this... he was ready to go. He had a pretty good evening, went to sleep and never woke up.
