Congrats! My little sis passed hers earlier this year as well. I know she had to retake one part a couple times.

Congrats - plan to continue working for a Big 4 or go down another path?

I spent 10 years at a Big 4, great experience, but not what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. Everyone is different though, and I know many who decided to stay.

CPA is great to have!

Are you still in public or move to a private position?

Unfortunetly i applied too late in the season for a job at the Big 4 (even though i would have been ahead of most of the people in my incoming class becuz i would have all 4 exams done) so i figure i'll work at the small firm for 1-2 years and then go to the big 4 for 4-6 years and then maybe try and get a cfo job or something. I'm only 23 so i have time lol

LOL, half of my coworkers have moved on to Leafs at this point. To be honest I've thought about it, but since GA is getting rid of the $5000 tax credit it's not going to be worth it.

From now on instead of saying goodbye I'm gonna say "Calc-U-Later".
Passing the CPA Exam has given me that right

I decided to work internally for a public company - joined their financial reporting team. Basically do the F/S and some of the more complex accounting for them (they have a separate group that does the day to day normal transactions).

Its a lot better than working at the Firm. But I may leave them at some point to work for myself...now that my son has been born (7 months), I don't love the idea of being over an hour commute away from him. And where I live there are very few public companies that would need me.

Gotcha. All my wife's clients offer her jobs, but she loves doing public accounting. She likes the diversity of her clients. Her firm is a largeish regional firm and have a much better work life balance than Big 4.

No chance of them being progressive enough to set you up to work from home a few days a week?

GJ OP!!!.... My wife is going through her actuarial exams (4/5 now)... which I understand are much harder than CPA (tongue in cheek reference to what actuaries think of accountants).. but I can relate how she feels after her successes to what yours may be after putting in all of that studying.

No, I just can't see how they'd do that, and oftentimes I need the resources at the office to do my job well.

I definitely understand your wife's POV, that's what I really liked as well when I was at Deloitte, I just didn't have the balance that she has. That's awesome for her and wish her all the best! The other thing that's nice with a firm is that you generally have a lot of smart competent people around you that you can bounce questions off of - that's the other thing I really liked.

I have heard that those are harder but for me I think they might actually be easier only because I'm a big math person and the CPA exams are less than 50% math while the actuarial exams are much more math intensive

If you passed the other three on your first try you'll definitely pass BEC!
