I agree 100%. They can't handle any type of inclement weather, then blame it on the fact that there's no road prep (you don't need road prep for rain, tires with tread helps). I usually don't ride in the rain, but even when I do get caught, I still ride the damn speed limit on my bike, people here literally shut down and freak out.

My awareness on the bike is much higher here than it was in MI, but I enjoy every chance I get to ride given the risk.

Sounds like you're already sold, I don't know what you're doing still sitting around on bimmerpost, go get some wheels.

I definitely agree that nothing is really that important. It's a really bad habit, and I've been trying to cut it to a minimum or completely out lately. I think the reason a lot of people my age do it is because it doesn't seem like such a big deal in the moment, but in the grand scope of things, you're putting people's lives at risk. And I totally get that. I also have a bike and ride every now and then (especially now that it's getting warmer out).

I know everyone thinks they aren't doing anything wrong and they're eyes are on the road and all that jazz, but SHIT HAPPENS. Since you ride, I would expect higher of you. If you really have that big of a problem with putting your phone down, literally just put it in the back seat, and you'll see that anything you may have missed, will still be there when you arrive.

Like I said- too many 'tarded drivers.

What I'm considering doing instead is getting a powered paraglider. They have a safety record similar to motorcycles, but the difference is there's no idiot traffic in the sky, so you're fully responsible for your own safety rather than being largely reliant on the actions of others for your safety. For the same level of risk, this looks higher-reward. Looks epic!

Again, I agree. And I'm not trying to make excuses for it. It's a really bad habit, and I've been trying to cut it down a lot.

Very cool, thought I wouldn't think the authorities would be thrilled with someone flying around the Hoover dam like that.

Yeah- that dude was doing some pretty high-risk flying. Canyons have all kinds of unpredictable wind patters (although it looked dead calm), and offer very little in the way of emergency landing opportunities. Best to wear a flotation device and ditch in the water. Those steep turns a few feet off the ground are risky, too, as you'll be skidding across the pavement if your motor hiccups, although unlikely to kill you.

That's mainly what you learn learning to fly anything; how to read the conditions and deal with emergencies. It's wise to never be out of gliding range of somewhere you can ditch, so if you're flying over trees, for instance, you want to stay close to a road.

I really.... reallly want one of those. Bad. I have a new aspiration to amount to!

Also, I've always wanted to try base jumping with a wing suit. Shit looks intense.

Yeah. They're about $7-10k all up, ready to go. Not bad for a flying machine you can throw in the back of your truck. You can get a little cart to attach to them, too, so you can land on wheels (it's pretty awkward to run with that big prop torquing away on your back). This is the one I want... http://blackhawkparamotor.com/store/...x-220-package/

I'd actually prefer to skydive. My grandpa is famous in the skydiving community, my GF used to jump, and a friend is an instructor, but the drop zone in my town SUCKS. One Cessna, and you have to land at 4500' altitude. So, it takes a long time to go up, you can only take two friends, and you get very little freefall time and a fast landing up in the thin air. Consequently, there's not much of a community here, which is half the fun.

Wing suits are tricky beasts. You need to have hundreds of jumps before you try.

Speed flying looks pretty epic, too. You take a tiny parachute and ski down a mountain. My grandpa says it's super risky though. I'm a great skier, but you also have to be an expert flyer and mountaineer for this.

That's actually a lot cheaper than I thought they'd be...., I'm really starting to get more and more interested. Hmmmm...., more toys.

I've skydived before, it was a good time, Michigan was pretty flat so reaching alt and free fall time was about as good as it can get. I would like to go again, but I really want to try base jumping of some sort at least once.

You have much better self control than I do. I usually max out at 98.9848%. It's technically not 100%, so I think I'm still doing well.

At least you're not 98.9849%, because at that level you've official reached the Flex zone.

I'm on my way home from Toys R Us after buying some diapers and toys for my daughter. I get behind this car which is driving all sorts of slow and constantly swerving towards the right into the curb. I'm stuck behind this idiot for a couple of lights till we get to an intersection where there's one of these Liberty Tax people waving down people. I see this little hand reach out the window waving back at the Liberty Tax person. The oh crap goes through my mind when I couple the realization there's a kid in a car driven by some idiot. I immediately think this airhead is probably texting on their phone. Light turns green and we drive down the road. Again, she's swerving all over the place. I can now see the tell tale head bobbing of the typical brain dead individual that does something like this while driving.

When we got to an area where there were two lanes, I couldn't hold back my anger any more. I change lanes over to the right drive up next this woman's car, and yell out the window. "Is your phone more important than your child?" She looks at me with this WTF look, and I proceed on.

If she doesn't feel that driving is a serious matter and thinks her life isn't as important than whatever is happening on that stupid phone, that's one thing. But to drag her kid who has no say in the matter into her stupid decisions....

Ok. I'm done venting.....
OP, i'm with you 100%... Stuff like this irks the crap out of me, and it's actually scary when riding...

However, You wanted Darwin to work faster and be more selective... At the same time, by you "warning" her, you slowed down natural selection
