OFFICAL Which TV should I buy thread? LCD vs Plasma, 720 vs 1080

just picked this up from circuit city

Sony - BRAVIA XBR 40" 1080p 120Hz Flat-Panel LCD HDTV

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1218009476591

excited about the 120 hz and the 1080p upgrade
coming from a samsung 32 inch 720p which i love but i need a 1080p for blue ray 8 )

Oh retail was about 1,999 at best buy (2,299 at CC) and I kept going back to CC all week. It started out at 2299 then it was 1800 then 1600 then i finally picked up the last one for 1300 (tax included!)

Considering best buy has it for 1599 I feel like i got a pretty good deal. I know I could have got a 50 inch plasma for like 999, but i wanted quality not quantity plus 120hx was a must for blue ray movies

ugh manning

The XBR4? I have that TV (46") and it does have 120Hz. I never use the 120Hz however. It really makes movies look like utter crap. The only time I would turn it on is for sports events and games. Other than that, it is always set to OFF. The only reason why I got a TV with 120Hz is for 24p (blu-ray movies). I'd much rather view a film with 24 frames / sec than 120 frames or the dreaded 3:2 pulldown.

I'll be honest, however. I do regret getting the TV. The Sony XBR series are GREAT tv's, but are way overpriced (especially the time when I bought it). Samsungs are just as good (if not better) than the Sony for a lot less money. However, it's a moot point since it seems that you got a pretty good deal on the XBR6. I would definitely be satisfied with a purchase like yours as well.

As for quality... well, Plasma is the way to go. LCD's can never match the picture quality and color reproduction of a Plasma. I only went with LCDs because of reliability, 24p, and price issues. If money were no object, the Pioneer Kuro would be the way to go.

I missed out on the Sony Bravia 52" 1080p deal a couple of days ago. Was only going for $1431 on Amazon. Been trying to get a 50"+ to replace my 40" Samsung 720p.

Yeah, after reading the comments, it looks like it was a price mistake and Amazon is not honoring their mistake. Guess I didn't miss out on anything.

I have the Sony Bravia 120mhz 1080p 46" LCD and love it. It's almost as if you were actually there when watching sports. Very smooth picture. You can pick it up at Costco online right now for $1599 + tax. Hurry because it's a limited sale. It also includes an add-on to hook the TV up to the internet using a standard ethernet LAN cord for free internet video
