You seem to have this figured out already, why you bugging me with questions??? The diet applies to both types. The real difference is that for insulin dependent, once you inject you have to get those matching carbs into the furnace.

I signed up for another trial today. This one they are adding a vasodilator to the quick acting insulin, so I can eat first, then dose to match (what I do anyways) This could be a big improvement when combined with Symlin. But I also expect with that I may have the potential for a lot more side effects.

Hahaha!

The basic emergency care is simple and i did my er courses too but I'm a person who learns this way the best. Especially when dealing with a kid, the adult needs to be ice cold. I'm cool on how to handle the condition in normal conditions, but the tips you gave here such as glucose or cake something things packed in for a trip are epic.

I read about the confusion and "not him" things but try actually seeing those in a quiet girl. Before you two said those, i didn't analyze those points i had read about enough to pay attention..i know what to feed to a diabetic for sure, but to handle a crisis is a different matter.

Now, if something happens on our walks, i picture your shining hair being my umbrella that'll carry me through it all.also, i doubt I'm the only one who read this so others will have a better understanding if they land in a bad situation too.

She also tells my husband he will also get type two since we don't eat enough bread, we eat mostly meat and greens and our kids get a bad example from us since we make them eat fatty, non processed foods.

Kids of course need more calories and more carbs to grow, but we two are pushing 40, we need to keep muscle mass up and blood sugars steady.
Sometimes it generally is bad advise and not having a good DM team.
And yes you can't fix stupid, my bet is on the bad advise or the way the advise is being delivered.

I had a doc tell me once, that Sugar is a poison to me... errrm no it's not, it's the "amount" of sugar/carbs/glycemic index that could be bad.

She is a nurse. That's the thing that keeps my husband and i wondering if Finland has achieved low costs in healthcare by killing all the patients. We both are sure she is a sociopath. Nobody cooks like her without wanting to kill people

Hahaha love the lancet meme. I can attest alcohol does lower your blood sugar. Shots of whiskey works well if you forget your short acting insulin. The best thing to eat to keep a constant blood sugar level at night is protein.....on top of any carbs if you are feeling low. If you are consistently going low at night you need to change up your medication. I give myself different amounts of both long and short acting insulin depending on what I do that day, exercising vs non exercise days. I use the pens. I guess this is the same thing that is easily done with a pump when you adjust the basil rate or just completely take it off when exercising. The only thing I stay away from bc I'm a diabetic is non diet sodas and milk shakes. Everything else I just eat a little less. One cookie vs four. That low carb/no sugar added is bs, tastes gross. I would hate when someone thought they were being considerate and would bring a low carb dessert. I don't want that nasty crap. Most people don't realize that a type one can really eat whatever they want. I don't advise that but if I wanted to eat an entire cake or jug of orange juice I could......as long as I had the insulin.

It's been YEARS since I used <rubbing> alcohol for anything. It's still kind of embarrassing when I get out of a pool. Everyone else has krinkly fingers, I have all these holes.

I also adjust based on exercise. And morning sugars are pretty well determined by last night's exercise. With - 100s Without - 200s

Lol, my julian was supposed to be a sugar baby, as in i was supposed to be a person suffering from a temporary diabetes. Because of a scan where he was on the week 20 growing on a very huge rate, they made me do blood sugar measurements, and cataloging my every bite for weeks.

It went well
...

I can't eat nothing but greens even while not pregnant for a week per month and while pregnant, i can't keep anything in. Well, except oven warmed, dry dog food. Since I'm bad at being in a hospital and lying down to enjoy infused nutrition and after reading my food diary, my primary nurse sent me in for a new scan since either i was the best liar ( i lost 15 kg's , about 30lbs in the first 7 weeks, then until i hit the week 39, i stayed there) ever or maybe the scan was wrong.

The scan was wrong, bigly. The fingers full of needle marks were really funny while trying to wash hands and i want to know how any construction worker keeps a job with those since fingers are a big part in fitting things on place (i was building a house then for us, that's why dog food was better than being in a hospital).

Anyway, diabetes sucks balls. Anyone want my mil as their personal chef?

I do need to lose about 20 lbs. How long do you think I need to vacation over there to accomplish that?

How tall are you? And how easily do you whine?

Well, we are building a summer kitchen, finishing the sleeping quarters and the main cabin needs to be painted and the sauna house needs a layer too. My dogs demand a tiny walk of 10 miles per day and we only work for 12 hours daily.

I usually lose (naturally mainly in liquids ) 4lbs per 1.5 days. In a week it balances out and since no heavy lifting available now, i can vouch for 7lbs in a week pace, if you only eat the minimum to keep you healthy.

A male usually needs a this more energy and since the only thing safe to eat she hands out is the green salad (trust me, you do not want to touch the meat. )

I will charge you 21 dollars but i will pay for your flights if you want to document and share that hell. The 21 dollars have to handed over in one dollar bills since i owe for my many bets I keep losing, and as a high roller, i have in a year and a half lost 10.5 times.

Fixed that for you Lups!!

As for sugar free stuff, most don't read the nutritional info but it typically has just as many carbs as the the full sugar variety. This contributes to the fattening of America...

And really had a good laugh at the lancet meme! Mom tends to be more anal about it but my son has the lancet that has six needles in it. Periodically I check it and he's still on number six even though I know he's had the test at school for weeks. And none of the replacement lancets have been used...

Thanks man!

That's the thing with my mil I don't get. She makes shitty foods, doesn't eat them herself, and then she eats everything even a healthy person should avoid after they hit the age of 30.

As shown above I have a general understanding how a diabetic/ any human over 20 should eat.

I swear I am not making fun of this.it's epic you guys share your experiences. I'm just a honorary aunt, but you guys have helped a lot. I have the emergency stuff down, but I want to be on case, on topic and handling things if something happens on my watch.

As for the nutritional information, us here are more aware of those. It takes time to make people to comprehend those

So I was speaking to my DM, I was thinking of cheating (yet again)
that by drinking (under dr's orders) a glass of red wine a day, to keep the CHOL down, also knowing that alcohol does lower your BG.

BUT under discussions (and further research this is what I learned)

* Red Wine lowering your Cholesterol is anecdotal evidence, a lot of different studies show different things, vise vie, red wine, white wine, tanning, or whether it does do anything, my doc says drink it, so thats good enough for me. WHITE probably does, but has a higher sugar/carb count than red, and which pussy drinks Rose (SHUDDERS)

* Alcohol lowering your BG is very unpredictable, that is, it may drop but not when you think it might, and not by how much, so using it as a tool to lower BG's is not a good idea.

** Binge drinking Alcohol is different, shuts off your liver, no sugar comes out, i.e. your rebound high, so thats very dangerous, and if your getting rebounds, you need to address that with eating more, not eating less, or having a different regime, which manages the liver dumping sugar into your system and taking you high. This is a BIG misconception with diabetics, we tweak our carbs, tweak our insulin and our liver just screws with you even more, MENTALLY when we see a high BG, we are taught, that we need to do 1 of 2 things, EAT LESS, or MORE INSULIN. when actually you need to eat more and drop your insulin.

Binge drinking is not good for anyone though LOLZ

I'm told that the effects are actually longer than that, exercising the evening before, can help your bg's for a full 24hours

Yes I believe they do. Just wore a continuous glucose monitor for a week and a could definitely see that exercise had lasting effects all the way through the next day.

I would never recommend trying to control your diabetes through alcohol intake. I was just saying it does work. And of course it matters what you are drinking.

And also risk the lows all day. For me the most dramatic is the next morning, but I do see it for about 36 hours on CGM.

Yesterday is an dangerous example. I swam the night before, just a short 30 minutes, but the first time in several months. Went to bed at 110. My Lantus pen only had 20 units left, so I was short 2. Woke up at 90. Lunch was 102. Didn't vary my food intake, and actually dropped my lunch bolus by a unit. When I got home at 4 I was down to 52. MACKED on 2 Reese's, 4 chocolate nuggets, and about 1/2 a container of Fruit Loops. Wife made calabacitas with corn, and chicken chest sautéed with cabbage for dinner. At a meeting, I had 2 large chunks of watermelon. At bedtime, I was still only 126.
This morning, 240
