They Want Your Blood!

Hello BMW Experts!

The need for blood donations is only going to rise as this virus problem circulates.
If you can, it might be wise to give before any travel restrictions are set, or while the system is not too stressed to handle you, or it becomes too scarey.

Murf (O+, so they often take double the usual amount. My wife has blood that is very needed for premature babies. My pop always had his platelets taken out.)

PS: pls "bump" this reminder up a time or two. The need for your blood is really big.

I’m seriously considering giving blood. They text me constantly they need my type. I normally donate but being I’ve been traveling to work (essential) I worry I could be sick with no symptoms yet. Torn on what to do.

Here is a bump.

My retirement community has a blood drive and they are coming out to us so we don't have to expose ourselves in a public setting.

You, being a New Yorker, might have problems giving presently.
Blood is always well screened, but if you think you are clean, & live in a clean place, pls get poked.

Really wish I could... They have a rule about having spent too much time in UK back in 80's and my parents lived there so of course I spent a lot of time there. The think I might be a carrier of mad cow disease. My wife thinks I already have it!

Oh. One of those....

And what would we do without our wives telling us stuff?!?
But seriously, thanks for trying.

I have donated every 8 weeks for the last 6 months. If I were not 74 years old I would try to give sooner. But I don't want to be part of the problem. It does beat me down a bit.

I can’t figure it out. Sometimes when I donate I’m fine and other times it wipes me out. :

I was in the hospital on an IV for ~ 12days, and I heard the nurses saying, "Get Mary. She can practice on Murf's arm!". I'm an easy poke, so I always goof on the nurses:
"Don't hurt me now!"
"Don't miss!"
When giving blood, I nap, meditate, etc., and come out feeling very rested.

Murf

PS: Lab retrievers are more difficult because they have an extra layer of fatty skin to keep them warm in the water, but it lets the vein squirm around some.
Samoyeds can be so difficult they have to try for the jugular sometimes.

I donate....but dislike needles. My daughter tried her best during nursing school to let her practice on me....but nope!!

Her poor boyfriend at the time...now her husband... was the guinea pig.

I was always vascular, but with the gym and a low body fat percentage...it's ridiculous. My wife thinks it's gross.

And lsturbointeg even gave me a nickname in the gym thread. Of course I showed his comments to my wife. I think her face was red for a week. She lived such a sheltered life.

Hope you guys up there are staying safe. I was talking with my daughter yesterday, and she's starting to really worry. That alarms me as she is pretty easy going, but she's part of a group network of nurse's across the country and some of the stuff that is happening is unnerving to say the least.

Things are getting personally scary now. A friend of a friend has died, and a friend has tested positive.
I'm staying home as much as I can, trying to think of minor things I can do to help....

Bless your daughter.

I don't know if I should risk giving blood. I'm in one of those weird situations where I don't fit into an exact guideline on whether I'm eligible or not to give blood.

My situation is I've had cancer...twice. While the guidelines said my cancer types are not exclusionary and I haven't had any recent treatment, I'm still in limbo as to whether I definitely am clear of any recurrence. My scans have been clear, but my tumor markers for the past year has spiked way up. If looking at just the numbers and trends, one would think I do have active cancer. But all the various tests/scans I've had say otherwise. My doc has no idea what is going on with me.

I'm truly sorry to hear that. When you hear about certain things, you take notice but don't necessarily invest yourself completely.

When you see it firsthand, that's when it really strikes you to the core.

My thoughts go out to all of our healthcare workers as it takes a special group to do what they are now facing.

So like, we are sort of scared to go to the blood place by subway, so my better half & I are driving by BMW express to the donation center.
I have been drinking extra beer lately to raise my blood volume. I hope to give them a full quart!

I don't know if drinking beer adds to blood volume but I WANT to believe it.
