Looking for a place to purchase decent replicas.

So a very wealthy client of mine was less than careful with his large watch collection, and had most of them stolen when his house was burglarized.

He now wants to purchase a set of replicas to put in his closet watch display with the real things safely stored. He's hoping if a break in happen occours again, the thieves will be satisfied with taking the replicas and leave.

Would love to know if anyone knows of a place that sells decent reps?

Just Google replica watch forums. Most forums will have "approved" dealers that are relatively trustworthy to order from.

I'm guessing this is a tactful way to ask a bunch of watch afficiandos about where to buy fakes. Replicas might work for travel or wearing in dangerous areas, but the solution for this is insurance, alarms, and a camera. And not really good even for wearing out - I'd think better to not LOOK like a Rolex wearer, because once they are mugging you, you've already lost, even if they just get a fake.

Is your client Gronk? Were his watches stolen during the Superbowl break in at his home?

This definitely sounds like Gronk logic.

You're only going to find decent replicas of the most common Rolex, Panerai, Breitling. If he has a very high end collection of complicated watches there are no good replicas if any at all

All was done last week, as well as a pretty amazing safe you'd never even know was there.

Nahhhh I would never wear one as I was raised around people who could afford them and would know at first glance they were fake. So I'll save up and buy a real one, like I'm doing now.

Just looking for something that people in a hurry to grab and dash would at a glance grab and leave.

So your client is expecting to get robbed again... if he had a super duper safe that you wouldn't realize is there, wouldn't that solve said problem at hand?

Does he have a body double too? That way if he's going out for dinner... someone can mug the doppelgänger instead of your client?

No no no. He wants the fakes so he can still display and show off all of his (fake) watches to friends that he apparently doesn't think cares enough to know they are fakes. Stupendous logic if I don't say so myself.

Showing fake high end watches to high end visiting friends....that can't tell fakes....
There is so much face palm going on here that I'm dumb founded that someone wealthy can come up with this logic. Completely absurd.

There are some really good replicas of most luxury watch brands, depending on the model.

As good as the Panerai replicas are, you can still tell they're reps if you get the chance to handle one. On someone else's wrist is a whole different story.

In today's world these reps make perfect sense - if the value of a watch is the brand-look, why spend a fortune paying some swiss dude to make those complex innards when you can just slap in a quartz movement and git to flossin'. On the other hand, joke is on them, since the only people who would likely recognize something like a Panerai are also less likely to care, and more likely to spot it as fake; never mind that the guy is driving a 10 year old corolla and wearing a Budweiser T shirt while he sports a faux 10-grand watch.

And of course, my apologies to all of you uber-wealthy guys who like to wear Bud T's while you rock a genuine Panerai.

Definitely great looking replicas of the more common and popular watches. Some better than others. But there are also a lot of very fake looking stuff.

The hand wound Panerai copies are very good. In some, they even use the same movement as the real one does. (a lot of hand wound Panerai use modified ETA movements).

Someone really needs to know the watch model to know the differences. The good fakes aren't cheap. Definitely go with some reputable dealers so you don't get ripped off.

Join a replica forum to find out more info and the authorized dealers.

On panerai...possibly this is why they are moving to in house movements...

Nah. They're moving to in-house movements because of the price point and the perceived quality "tier" that they want to get to. They're aiming to be closer to Patek in pricing than Breitling.

Hard to charge $20K, or be thought of as a top-tier manufacture, if you're using ETA movements for most of your watches.

Tell your client walk up and down NYC 5th ave from 41st to 57th. He could actually get a great deal, and the replicas would come in a suitcase.

I think it's both good and bad. You can brag that you have a watch with an in house movement which costs more.

I don't really see anything wrong with an ETA movement - they make many different grades so the one in a Tudor is better than the ETA in a Tissot.

For true watch enthusiasts looking for innovation in mechanical watch movements - they look for the super long power reserve movements and things like Seiko Spring Drive to truly geek out. Just having "in house" movements doesn't mean anything.
