Sorry, too lazy to even copy/paste this, but this is how I've been fighting tickets for years and with good results.

That's all good for court but never never never debate at the roadside.

I hardly say anything at roadside; they hardly give a damn, and it's near impossible to talk yourself out of tickets nowadays anyway. Plus in this day and age, I'd probably get shot if I even so much as blinked the wrong with these damned trigger-happy corrupt cops.

I had that bit of programming done so I can display my "true" speed in the dash, not the speedometer. His LIDAR reading matched my dash display at the time. When I set the cruise control on my way home, I had to set it as 79 to get my dash speed to be 74.

Update

So after hunting down a local lawyer willing to go to court with me, it stands at me having to drive to Lake Charles for the court appearence. Lawyer said he couldn't haggle that part at all even though he tried. He will charge $750 to go to court with me. I'm assuming my chances of no points and lesser fines is higher if I have legal counsel with me in court?

Smart move! Will it guarantee no points and a lesser fine? Nothing is 100% but your odds are far better using the local lawyer who knows the local system and likely knows the judge... Good luck!

That sounds a little steep.

Well that is the quote per his paralegal quoted me this morning. He is going to call me after lunch and I will try to haggle on the $750. If he doesn't budge, should I just try elsewhere? I have to do it quick because court date is 2/9.

I called the court to see what my options are and clerk stated that since I was in such excess of speed, I have to go to the court date and that she cannot do anything for me over the phone.

I have no problem going to the court, I just wonder if I can ask for deferred adjudication or perhaps another option to where it does not appear on my license? Before this ticket, my license is clean and I would like to keep it that way. I've read online that lawyers are pointless and expensive. Any advice would be much appreciated.
Wish I could help you but instead I'll give you advice that won't help you at all.

Be glad you didn't get pulled over in Virginia. You can go to jail for that here. For reasons beyond my comprehension, anything over 80 mph or anything 20 mph over the posted speed limit, whichever comes first, is reckless driving...which is a misdemeanor here. People can and have gone to jail for that.

Good luck though man.

So I spoke with him over the phone. According to him, I should take a defensive driving course before my date, so that I can show it in court, showing that I am trying to better myself. The judge in court that day is a liberal judge and a good guy. However, he said that is no guarantee as the schedule can change and so can the judge's attitude. He also said that he cannot guarantee anything but will do all in his power to make sure that it does not get on my record. What do y'all think, should I stick with him or go elsewhere? He says he is more than happy to refund all my money if I back out and want to go with another lawyer, no pressure from him. However, he believes that if another lawyer told me that they could guarantee me victory would be lying through his teeth, given my case.

I don't get it. So what services did you receive from paying this lawyer person?

To basically ensure that I do not get anything on my record and lowest fines possible.
