Also, FIXED FEEDING TIMES ARE A MUST. Especially for training. Great for my 4.5yr old, and fortunately the shelter was already beginning this for the puppy. My adult male eats all of his in one go. The puppy eats about 1/2 of what we put out, and then gets the other 1/2 later in the day. So she's technically eating 4x per day. But as stated above, will be weened down to 2x.
We’ve used Chewy before but their delivery times can be inconsistent. I don’t like the idea of them shipping from Nevada during the summer and then having the bag sit outside in FL (which has actually happened). So we just get from our local store, which also delivers. I’m sure I’m paying a few extra bucks but she only eats a cup of food a day so we’re not breaking the bank.

Wow, that's crazy! How long ago was that? I've been ordering from them now for 4 years and I always have the food within 1-2 days max from my scheduled ship date.
I'm down in Pompano. Maybe they've gotten a closer DC since you last ordered from them?

I think it was 2019. They are based in South Florida (I’m in Wellington) but I think if you happen to order something they don’t have in stock in the nearest warehouse, they will ship from another warehouse. They have also shipped us stuff from PA in the past. Not all the time, but it happens. It’s fine if not summer or a product impacted by heat, but just easier to get food at our local store.

I’m the same was with prescription meds (for humans). Won’t do mail order so they don’t sit baking in the mailbox if they arrive on a day we aren’t home (or while in transit with USPS).

We order from Chewy and every time the shipment originates in Mississippi, arriving 1-2 days after the order was placed. I always assumed there is a DC there...

I had to wait on this a couple weeks but Apollo "the Judgey Cat" had to be put to sleep on Christmas eve. Cancer got him at 7 years too young. He was my home office laptop warmer all through the pandemic and he will be missed. I'm now completely pet-less for the first time ever.

Note: No word if sleeping on a laptop causes cat cancer but maybe scoot them off the things if you can.

Sorry for your loss. We also lost one recently, and it never gets easy. But rest assured that letting him sleep on your monitor had nothing to do with it (not defending laptops, just hate the idea you'd be feeling any responsibility for not stopping him).

FWIW, we've had at least a couple of vets say that going "grain free" is just marketing BS unless your pet has a demonstrated sensitivity/allergy.

We're using Purina Pro Plan puppy food, because it was what she was eating at her foster home.

Surprisingly, Costco dog food is pretty highly rated.

My younger dog is feisty and, when excited to play, will play growl while standing up on his rear legs w/ his front legs raised up & outward.

Having just finished watched Vikings, is it wrong that I am teaching him to do that when I say "valhalla!"?

On a related topic...
Have any of you bought or made a potty tray for inside a kennel/cage that your puppy or small dog can use? Meaning: a tray with a linner in it that is about a inch or less deep, with a rack of some sort they can walk on but the waste falls through onto the pad?

I didn't buy it, but my mother did. It was a similar set up for my guinea pig. She would use the restroom and it would land in the tray below and my mom would pull it out and change the liner daily on it.

Very similar to this set up.

Most crates come with a plastic pull out tray at the bottom but without a rack above it. That would make it difficult for the pup to move around I think.

There will be some accidents in the crates but they aren't too bad if you just take it outside and hose if off. The trays pull out and can be cleaned separately.
The sooner they are trained to go outside the better. And the training isn't that hard - most catch on pretty quick. Taking them out often enough but not go crazy with it is a little tougher to master.

Thanks Rick. I spoke with the Breeder who has a custom setup they created using closet shelves and trays, both custom cut. After scouring Amazon, I believe I've found our solution. Stay tuned for pics...
