Living in an Apt Driving a BMW?

i don't see anything wrong with it...if you make the payments in the apt and paying for your car then thats all good..what really bothers me are people who uses food stamps and lives in a low cost housing and still drives expensive cars...

I'm not sure where the OP is currently residing, but living in an apartment, either by purchasing or renting versus buying a single family house, has no relationship to a person's financial and social status. Would you look down on someone who pulled out of Trump Towers in a Bentley merely because he/she is living in an apartment?

I rent an apt in a luxury building near wall st, walk to work and have a bmw. one did not dictate the choice of the other. hell, my parking costs as much as a lease special 335i....
not sure what the generalization is trying to say.... everyone has their own priorities, everyone has different needs.
i will say though, if you are stretching yourself to make rent, eat, and have a bmw, you may need to reexamine those priorities, but at the end of the day, they are YOUR priorities.

Well, me personally, I share an apartment with my cousin and I still have a BMW. Had a beautiful '04 Corvette before I bought the BMW (it was tragically totalled. Thank you, rain + shitty loop 1604) The fact is, I love cars. I'm a student, and starting nursing school in the fall. I work 40 hours a week and I also go to school full time and have been for the last three years. I suppose realistically it would almost be CHEAPER to buy a house than it would be throwing away money on rent. I get the occasional comment about my lifestyle, but I say hey, I drive a BMW, I'm doing well for myself, and I have a very nice apartment. It works for me, so do what works for you, my friend. Odds are people who are hating on you for it are probably just jealous.

Example: I have always told my mom that I loved cars so much that I would rather drive a Ferrari and live in a trailer home, rather than have a nice house and an econobox.

Sure, doesn't have to be those 2 extremes, but you get it.

What's with all these people these days asking about "what occupation they should do to drive M3" or "people should respect my 3er being over $50k" or "devastating news about his non approval of loan for his new bmw".....
And now we get this question whether if people living in apt is ok to drive the bimmer...

Quit what people are thinking about your life.
But you shouldn't be suffering just to afford your car...that will be sad...
I guess all these bmw's aggressive marketing and bargain deals are making people more materialistic and make them live out of their means.

I know some people that kept saving and not really enjoyed life because their trying to "live with their means" and apparently when they died(around 40s..early? yeah), their children are the ones who enjoyed it instead... Ummm just my 2c.

I've only been out of college a couple year so Im under 30 but I've already owned two BMWs (04 E46, 08 E92) and lived in apartments.

It's a free country. They can do what they want. If they can afford to drive a BMW and pay the rent and living expenses for an apartment, more power to them.

Me, I live in a condo and currnently paying a 30 year mortgage.
I own 4 cars (2010 335i, 2005 Stang GT, 1997 Corolla, 1983 380SL Benz).
Fortunately, I'm single, never married, nor have kids so I don't have a lot expenses other than providing for my own living expenses.
I have a good job and manage my money very well so I can afford to live a pretty comfortable lifestyle and enjoy driving my cars.

i'll live in a 1000 sq. ft. apt on Rodeo drive in beverly hills for $1500 / mo. versus living in a 2000 sq. ft house in COMPTON or South Central LA for the same price.




That is quite the deal for that area is it not? I thought $3 a sf was more the norm.

Bailed from a 4000 sf home to a 1300 sf town home where they mow for me. My dad is the proud owner of my old lawnmower.

Buying a house is not the end all be all life affirming goal for everyone.

I bought my first house a couple of years ago at age 35. New construction, new neighborhood and all that in what was supposed to be a safe area that everyone said had never flooded in over 100 years. It was even listed as not being in a flood zone by FEMA. 9 months later Hurricane Ike comes along and floods not only my house but 95% of the town, something everyone said could never happen.

Luckily I couldn't see not buying flood insurance for $260 a year. I was not going to be one of those fools on TV proclaiming that mother nature is not going to defeat me and I will rebuild so I took the money and got the hell out. Back to apartment living for me. No worries, no headaches, no property taxes, no outrageous flood and windstorm and homeowners insurance premiums (post hurricane) and no stressing every hurricane season when a storm kicks up in the Gulf, waiting to see where it is going to make landfall. I figured I won't have the house so I will have a nice car instead and I am able to garage it at the apartments so no worries there.

I went from college to the Corps, where for 7 years I lived in barracks, squad bays, and sometimes tents. If I had been single when getting out, I'm sure I would have been just fine with an apartment, as a house would have just been a waste for me. I wouldn't really need too much space or isolation if I didn't have a family.

That being said, you can buy a house in Detroit for $500 so having a house vs an apartment isn't necessarily autmatically better.

If you live and work in a city downtown I think an apartment/condo is the only option... and I see 911's, gallardos, and even a mercedes mclaren in my garage.

I'm choosing to live in an apartment because I'm not ready to own a home. There's a lot changing in my life everyday and the last thing I need to is to buy a home when I may have to sell it in the near future.

Agreed.

I think it's also funny that people insist that a BMW has to live in a garage... come on. I used to park my Exige outside and never thought twice about it. There were also 2 Elise's in the lot as well. They are just cars... The OP makes apartments sound like a prison sentence. I happen to really enjoy apartment living.

I don't know how you live your life either.. I assume it's not comical and maybe boring... But people would have different perspectives and priorities.. Some people are trying to live their life and enjoy day by day and some are trying to kept trying to plan for the future and somewhat neglecting to enjoy the present and sometimes they don't achive the future or some just got eventually what they want... It's just a matter of choice.. Maybe comical choice??

I don't think that placing higher priority on other stuff such as happiness and bla bla than buying a house is a comical thought for everyone...
