You could have saved another $40k and purchased the Civic Type R. What's your point?

I guess I am bit biased, but I think the Porsche is in a different league/category all together than that of an M4. This is not a diss to the M4 as it is an amazing car. There are more to cars than numbers on a track.

Not crazy...they seem like they would be a fun car to daily.

You know what is interesting, anglo mentioned the 911R.. and that car actually won the EVO COTY 2016. Obviously, who could have seen that coming? But that is attributable to your point of track numbers. That car really seems to be about the EXPERIENCE, and that type of automobile is truly becoming a rarity.

And yeah, I have loved it for such a long time. Previous/current generation apparently has one of the best manual gearboxes on the market, 1.6 inch gating, I believe? Amazing.

Many people like older cars because of the "experience". Even if the car is not necessarily faster, they like how the car handles, drives, and provides more honest feedback.

The 911R is a speculators dream car.
Naturally aspirated when everyone is going turbo
Manual transmission whenever everyone is going DCT/PDK/F1
Limited numbers and impossible to get unless you are someone

The GT3RS prices were nearing $350k. Now most of them are sitting around $250k. $100k loss in one year? yikes! Who knows where their price will go? We will have to wait until we find out more about the next GT3 and the release of the GT2 (and GT2RS) If the next GT3 comes in a manual gearbox, the current GT3 will be on sale for a nice discount. Which goes against the logic in this thread because PDK is so much faster. However, it's not always about seconds on a track.

Yes, Honda claims 1.6" gating which should be the shortest of any car. Honda has always made great transmissions.

Well, the next gen GT2 is rumored to only come in PDK, while the next gen GT3 should definitely come with a manual. 4.2L, I believe? Should be good for around 520HP, NA. That would be my dream choice, tbh. No need for another turbocharged 911. That's 90% of their offering, as it is.

My point is i'm willing to pay $80k for a luxury sports car, not that complicated.

If i was 19 maybe i'd go for the Civic type R.

Only fanbois think the 911s is in a different league, the 911 turbo or gt3 yes not the 911s.

It's not rare for a S2000, E36 M3 or even an E92 M3 on coilovers to run better times than a 911 S on coilovers.

Reality check folks, the 911s is not in exotic territory. LOL

Summary of your post: Leagues are created strictly by numbers.

Hey guys, I want to know which car I should get. A lambo countach or a new V6 Camary? They get around the same times at the local tracks.

Don't be a lambo fanboi now and say they are different! NUMBERS DONT LIE!

Although I do think those cars might run better or even be quicker in certain circumstances, I'd rather have a 911 than all of them combined.

A Type R though, completely different matter. There is just a sense of luxury and speed and class that a Type R exudes that the 911 just can't match. The FWD and the squirming and 4 cylinder, my God. Epitome of lightning, right there.

You are a fanboi! That's why! Why would you think the 911 is better than a car that is obviously as fast or faster than?

It's like saying the M4 is 2x the sports car than an E90 M3 because it obliterates the E90 M3 time of 8:05 around the ring by 13 seconds.

Randy Pobst ran a 1:39.30 in a 991 s (not the 991.2s). and 1:39.69 in an M4 at Laguna, they run the 1/4 mile in around 11.8 sec.

Yes you can say both cars have similar performance.
That's why i said F Porsche and got an M car, i didn't want to pay $40k more.
The 991.2 s wasn't out yet when i was shopping for a 911.

I'm on my 4th set of RE-71R's.

Was this Porsche event, an autocross event?
Both cars do not have similar performance. If you drive them back to back, you'd understand - the Porsche is much more involving and balanced. You're comparing apples to oranges. Comparing numbers on paper is not driving. A shotgun and a sniper rifle may do the same damage as a weapon but the way they do it is way different.

No, the Porsche event was not an autocross, we drove them at Thunderhill Raceway in a lead-follow format.

Yes, and I'll show you my friend's 1990 Nissan 240SX that runs way faster lap times than any of these cars... There's no point to compare numbers between modified cars - especially with different drivers behind the wheel. I've lapped 458 Italias on track, does that mean my car is faster?

It doesn't matter that the M4 has more of a neutral and progressive handling. Also the purists just love Porsche's torque vectoring to help it turn. Lol

The M4's numbers is on the right. Yeah the 911s is twice the car.

This reminds me of the cesspool that is the political subforum, facts versus subjective opinion! Who will emerge victorious?! Only time will tell!

What transmissions were used for this comparison?

Looks like an auto vs MT, particularly concerning the top gear numbers, since they are not going to down shift the MT car for the figure, and 4.2sec is the slowest time I've seen for any DCT equipped car.

Not all 240SXs are for drifting... Although I've participated in a few drift events when I had one. Just trying to keep a steady angle going around a single cone is incredibly hard. It's great for learning car control!

My friend's is built for track events. It also uses all OEM aero and completely built from the ground up starting with the frame on a stand - probably the cleanest 240SX you'd see... and it cost more to build than said 911 Carrera S.

The 991 s is slower even with the DCT.
