With the way China embrace electric car (with very little institutional resistance), like or not a lot will be electric going forward, Tesla might not be around in 10 years but someone else will

That's good news. For what it's worth I never stated it was Musk's dream to jumpstart the EV market. I said the existence of Tesla jumpstarted the EV market, and it has.

i was not referring to you, simply stating that many people have expressed that they believe musk was doing this for that very reason. i am fairly certain when raising money the road show never consisted of anything like that anywhere in the pitch.

These autopilot/autonomous systems are a long way from being mainstream. Tesla's position that they are safer than human alone systems would be interesting if say 20 or 50% of the cars on the road were autonomous. I suspect the rates of fatal accidents would go much higher.

They need to slap a regulation to stop calling it autopilot
It's a driver assist feature
Maybe the more intelligently compromised individuals will stop using it as such and pay attention to the road

Tesla's brand is too strong for them to go away entirely. I feel worst case scenario is they get bought out by a major automaker.

I stated many times on here that a merger or buy-out by GM would be ideal for both parties. GM could keep Tesla as a stand-alone brand and then use the tech across all their platforms. GM would provide global manufacturing for Tesla and decrease it costs and Tesla would provide GM with the tech and branding that would rope in individuals who would typically not consider a GM product.

GM is a disaster of a company. They'll screw up Tesla badly, Tesla should avoid GM like the plague.

- Grew up with a strong GM background in the family

At least Tesla has done something innovative and revolutionized the world.

GM is forever mired in bureaucracy and mediocrity, ruining everything they get their hands on (remember Saab?).
