I drove for so many years in cars pre ABS that to this day I have never activated it on or off track. I have been programed to innately sense that razor edge where control used to end, and my limbic brain will push no further. At the first sense of a loss of traction my foot automatically goes into back off and reapply mode.

As for the track, continuously relying on ABS in the braking zone is a bad practice that will bite you in the ass someday.

A car I had before ABS was a brand new 1987 Supra. Was driving one day with my wife and two kids (my son was just born) and this lady runs a stop sign just as I was entering the intersection. With no time to think I slammed on my brakes and skidded through the whole intersection and just missed this lady by inches. She drove on completely oblivious to what had just happened.

I was about to go after her but thought what's the point, and I did have my whole family in the car. So I got myself together and started to continue on my way home and as I was driving I heard and felt a thump, thump, thump, thump. I had made a flat spot on all 4 tires from the long skid through the intersection.

Needless to say I had to buy new tires that day. In retrospect I should've gone after the woman for some compensation but I think that would've been futile, plus like I said I had my family in the car and the lady was gone before I could get her license plate.

ABS would've definitely been worthwhile given a situation like that for me, though it could've been a lot worse. I could've collided with that woman. We were very lucky that day.

Edit: I had no knowledge or experience in modulating the brakes manually.

I do remember you said you had a Bug. Too bad you don't have a photo. Memories are good too.

That Chevelle back seat was huge. It may as well have been a motel room compared to the Bug back seat. The good ol' days for sure.

Pics would have been nice. My Bug was pretty cool, with a custom paint job; red with black shadowing around the fenders, hood and trunk.

And yes, the back seat of the Chevelle was a comfy place to be.

Wifey and I were having lunch today in a restaurant where they were playing music from the early 80's. I commented how the music still seems fresh and perfectly normal to play today, while back in the 70's we considered late 50s and early 60s music to be Oldies even though it was only 10-15 years old. Back then if you were in your late teens or early 20s, you wouldn't dream of listening to 40 year old music. That would have been Big Band Era stuff.

So true. I posted something similar recently. I remember being stuck in traffic on Sunday nights coming home from my aunts house in Long Island and my father would be listening to the oldies. God, it was torture. Anyway, think about it. Stairway to Heaven is 50 years old? I think the music from the 70s and 80s still sounds so good because the new music sucks

Get off my lawn. Happy weekend to all.

Funny enough a few days ago while checking what shows was coming to town, one of them was Boney M.

Boney M... What, I remember back in the late 70’s (~ 45 years ago) spending some time alongside in Den Helder, their music was all over the place. I did really enjoy their music.

The wife did not seem to know/recalled them (she later remember some of the songs), so I google and find one of their great hits in a video.

Well, I had never seen a picture of them let alone see them perform, so this was kind of "funny/strange";

We absolutely have THE BEST music!! I have recently subscribed to Sirius XM and I listen to 70s on 7 and Yacht Rock all the time. I’m listening to it right this minute. Summer Breeze Makes Me Feel Fine. I told my sister I just pretend it’s the 70s and not 2023. A much more enjoyable time!!

I love SeriusXM. I like the Classic Vinyl channel, plus several others, including 70s on 7. Hope you're getting a good price. I'm paying around $7 a month. If you're paying more, you're paying more than you have to.

Music on the radio was dead down here by the early 80's with the exception of a Classical station which lasted until about the mid 90's. Nothing but talk, talk, talk in English and Espanole. Thank God for Sirius XM! I am mostly on BB King's Bluesville, and Symphony Hall, but I bounce around to the 50's; 60's; and 70's on occasion. I know.. old fart.. sigh.

Good one!

...or no need for a hand crank with this car... It's the first Porsche all electric car.

A lot of people don't know that electric cars were being produced at the beginning of the auto industry. They actually competed for business pretty favorably until Henry Ford came out with the Model T. The Model T price was so cheap by comparison that ICE-powered cars became the standard and electric vehicles went away. What if ol' Henry had put an electric motor in the Model T?

Since you're enjoying 70's on 7, give the channel, "The Bridge" a try...similar, same era, but a bit more "easy listening".

Yes, I have been listening to the Bridge recently. I enjoy it. Yacht Rock is really good and super mellow!

I cancel every renewal and within a couple of months they're begging me to come back. I got 2 years for $6.06, including taxes & fees. My only problem with Sirius is the commercials, er, "public service" announcements they feel they need to do. Then there's the stupid "DJ experience" they must assume we want. I have satellite radio so I can just hear non-stop music and NO TALKING!

That whiney bitch Madison on Lithium in the morning drives me crazy. STFU! I like the music but find myself avoiding the station when she’s on. For those not familiar with Lithium, it’s ‘90s Grunge.

In my case, it's Cool Bobby B on the '50s channel that I avoid. Apparently he's a famous DJ from somewhere or another -- spends too much time blabbing and not enough playing music. I guess the principle is the same for all the channels -- just shut up and play music!

You would love my dad!! Somehow he has a mind that memorized the lyrics to all the popular songs from the 50s when he was a teenager and he knows them all! Some 40s songs and some 60s and 70s songs, too. All my life his tagline has been, “that reminds me of a song” and then he will sing it. And he has a very good voice. His signature song is “Hey, hey good lookin’ “. He has moderate dementia now and he can’t remember what happened one minute ago, but he still has all of his music!!
