Verstappen - Post-qualies interview:

“In qualifying, you need to go all out and risk it all. My first sector wasn’t ideal on my final lap, I think Turn 1 was a bit cautious, but then I knew I was behind, so the last sector I gave it everything I had and clipped a few barriers…
“We need a clean start [to the race]. It’s a short run to Turn 1. I mean, in Monaco, a lot of things can happen – Safety Car, rain, you name it, there is always a bit of chaos involved. I think race-pace wise the car is quick, so that’s not the problem, but we just need to keep it clean and calm.”

No secret that Alonso and Verstappen have high esteem about each other, lots of mutual respect. They both will do everything to get P1 at the first corner. Track position is crucial at Monaco. Hopefully they don't get entangled with each other or with other drivers. They both need a perfect start. And hopefully Ocon (P3) doesn't cause yellow or red flags in the first corner or lap (there still is some bad blood between Alonso and Ocon + between Verstappen and Ocon). If Verstappen has a good start, Alonso will be required to quickly 'close the door' for Ocon in the first corner - could involve some ruffling feathers.

Would be great if Alonso wins this race. Rooting for him to grab this chance.

Rather than Fernie trying to attack Max at the start it is more likely that Ocon will attempt that on Fernie then with him being on the outside at the start.

That Max Verstappen and Fernando Alonso are good friends will come as no surprise to anyone. However, the 'bromance' continues to blossom, according to a conversation between the two drivers during the post-qualifying press conference in Monaco.
Praising words from Verstappen to Alonso
First of all, Verstappen let it be noted that he is anything but surprised by Alonso's current strong form. "For me it's nothing of a surprise. I grew up watching Fernando in F1 and I liked his style and for him to still be here at 41 it's very impressive and I think it's a great example for people out there," the Dutchman's words of praise resound.
That his age is not a limiting factor for the Aston Martin driver, he has long made it clear. "If you stay committed and believe in yourself, believe in the opportunities that come to you, then you can show something like he's doing right now. But, of course, you need also a lot of natural raw talent with that," Verstappen said.
Alonso wants to come see Verstappen's plants
For his part, Alonso is asked about a completely different subject: flowers. After the Miami Grand Prix, there was a moment when Verstappen was talking to the media, while Alonso smelled some flowers in the background as he waited. This apparently evoked a new passion in the Spaniard.
"There are no flowers here. It was only Miami and you and Checo we were talking a lot. So I had to wait in the TV pen for a long time and there were a couple of flowers. I love flowers. The team has now put some extra flowers in the motorhome. I have some in my room as well," Alonso says.
Who knows, his new passion might even lead to a joint hobby with Verstappen. "I have some plants at home as well," hints the Red Bull Racing driver, to which Alonso replies, "I can go in my free time. We talk tomorrow night - depends how aggressive you are in the race!"

Interesting: VER on medium, ALO on hards.

I think ALO doesn't want a clash at 1st turn and beat him on a longer stint.
ALO also knows that finishing in 2nd is more important than not finishing at all.

I think AMR's main goal this year is becoming 2nd after RB and thus beating MERC and Ferrari.

MAX's pit window is 30-37 laps with his mediums.
ALO's pit window is +/- 45 laps with his hards .

MAX's mission is saving his tyres . Of course the number 1 can do that ..
