Ahhh, you noticed.

I was at the beach for my annual girlie trip. It wasn’t the same having a loaner for the drive. Weather was great, best weather in the 13 or so years we’ve been doing this. I got in car this morning to come home and I had a freakin flat. FML. I’ll be in the loaner for another week or two. German Engineering said I need a valvetronic unit.

The beach is good for my soul.

Valvetronic unit? The thing that controls the variable valve?

How many miles are on your car? that sounds like a warranty claim...

Yes, it’s warranty. I only have it 10 months, just shy of 8,000 miles.

So this morning I got an Emergency Call Malfunction alert on the loaner? WTF? Is it me? One of my old bosses used to complain that anytime I used his computer it would go haywire. He said I must have some kind of electrical current running though me that doesn't play nice with computers. Maybe he was right.

Yesterday I received a letter from the central funeral general service, my Dad had died at May 17th and was stored into the big fridge at 18th.
The letter was from Jun 16th and yesterday was already the 21st.
Now I got time to manage to get him off the fridge and arrange a place to rest for his remains until the 28th or the service would organize a simple funeral to my expenses with a small and tiny grave. This will cost me the next years.

I hadnt talked to him since more than 23 years and we were never been the best friends and I cant say that Im grieving or feeling some pain - aside from the fact that I have to confess that the whole costs are on my expenses and this is driving me actually up the walls!

I'm so sorry. Regardless that you haven't spoken in 23 years, that's a terrible way to find out your father passed away. So sad.

I found out my dad died through my sister several years ago. He was eighty-something. Funeral expenses were not on me. Wouldn't have paid them anyway. I confess I did not care at all that he was dead. I hated him. He beat my mother and physically assaulted me many times when I was a kid. She died young and I blame him.

Thank you for this, but I meant what I had written.
My father was a gambler, playboy and well related to kinds of booze. During his lifetime he had lost the built house from my parents after Mom and he got divorced just to pay his dues, after that my grandpa, his father, had given him his condo in Hamburg for living under the circumstance that he wont sell it. He hadnt sold it but was ranged out by Moskow incasso very early into the morning and the condo was confiscated and later sold to get the bank and other people most of their money back.
Somehow he managed it to get a 'girlfriend' which had let him live with her together into her flat. His Dad died with prostata cancer as my Dad was somewhere with someone on a weekend holiday and as he called me I told him the bad news. We finished the call and just Minutes later my Grandma called me to tell me that Dad had ranged her just to ask, how high his heritage would be to expect... No condolences or words of sorry.
This had enraged me so bad, that I had called him back and told him to stay off my area and ffs he should stay off the funeral of his Dad - otherwise the last noise he would ever hear were the sound of my cocked gun when I release the trigger!
This was short after christmas 1998 and I confess that later on one of my biggest fears were to have him in one of my flights and he awares me into the cockpit.
That had luckily never happen and at a not defined point into my life I had forgotten his presence.
This may sound very rude and brutal for outstanding people, but this was exactly what I had felt and actually I am glad when this book is finally closed.

Reading your story and Esteban's makes me realize how very lucky I was to have had such a great man for a father. He was my best friend.

You were indeed very lucky. Sorry he's gone.

I have that kind of relationship with my daughter. I feel lucky as well. It more than makes up for my father and that part of my life.

PS - except for my mom.

I almost signed up for today's SiriusXM deal of $5/mo for a year today, I had the phone in my hand.

Then I remembered that unless I keep close track next year, they'll bill me $215 for what I paid $65 for this year and how much I hate their service and their terrible business model.

So many other good music services that play under bridges and parking garages, and they still do this.

I guess my confession though is that I hate anything in a car not working as it should and it bugs me that I can't select Sirius and have it work, so it's easy for them to take advantage of me unless I keep my guard up.

I literally just finished reading the same offer from todays mail. My free subscription with the new lease expires in August.

I’ll probably do it. Now without a CD player and me being old school without playlists or other music sources, Sirius is my go to.
