Which Kicks?
So left my long time job last year so I could enjoy life more, I work at a much more casual place now (same industry - less stress - love it) so most of my slacks/button ups/oxfords sit more then they used to - which I am surprised to find I love. I was always one of the better dressed people in the office - not because I have so much style - I just tried a little harder. I was in charge of Sales & Marketing and felt I should set the example.
I've been enjoying life more which lead to me losing some weight and I have been slowly replacing my wardrobe with new sizes and updating as I do. Now I find myself being "in between" shoes. I have tons of sneaks like all guys and tons of oxford/dress shoes - but am lacking in true casual shoes. I am in my 40's, but I still try and dress a little decent (and get told I do a lot, so not just me) but what kind of shoes do you guys wear these days for a night out on the town bar hopping or seeing a band, etc. Somewhere that I might have on jeans and a tshirt with a casual button up tossed on over it, but unbuttoned or maybe even a casual pullover. I see LOTS of dudes in sneaks all the time, which I am sure is fine (I do have some better looking shoes like that) but feel I want to go one step further without hitting oxford territory. Help an old bastard out here with some ideas.

I have 6-7 pairs that i have on rotation (nike/adidas/new balance), a pair of indoor gym shoes and a pair of going out shoes i got for $30 on clearance from nike.
my daily shoes are sneakers, but they're less gym shoe material and more "casual" at least for a 20 year old dude. I'm talking stan smiths, converse if i feel like it, air max 90s, air force 1 (low). my dad though has multiple pairs of geox. he loves them because they're (apparently) super comfy and super light, important for him because he travels a lot - i think some are a bit ugly but could be worse... |

i need to find some real waterproof shoes to wear in a suit... my suit shoes are protected by crep which is fine, it works awesome, but im scared because at the end of the day it's just a spray-on coating
don't want to ruin leather shoes because i was unfortunate enough to study in the midwest! |

I wear black New Balance sneakers or my orange Adidas sneakers if I feel like I want attention. Wrong guy to ask

Josef Seibel are super comfy and dress down nicely. I also have some Timberland chukka. If wearing jeans, a nice pair of cowboy boots is really hard to beat.

I'll second the suggestion for cowboy boots. Can be dressed up or down very easily, and leather soled versions can be light and quite comfortable. Rubber soled boots are a little heavier and clunkier, but more weather resistant depending on what you're looking for.

+1 either the desert boot or bush acre.
Maybe a casual dress boot

Shocked no ones has mentioned Sperrys, perfect casual option without going too casual. Like you mentioned just a step under the oxfords. Comfortable with or without socks, durable, easy on an off. Regardless of pant type they look good! I prefer the leather ones, but their other materials are fine too.

Yeah, I have a pair of hemp Sperry's that are okay. I probably veer to the more casual and wear Vans and Chucks as often as my Aldens, Rancourts and AE's.
But it is easy to wear a Dainite soled oxford, especially in a dumb color. I have red and yellow Dainites on brown and black shoes. |
