First attempt: Time Lapse
My daughter's birthday party was today, so I thought I might try a time lapse sequence. I've never done one, but thought this might make for an interesting experiment.
Settings: 1" second exposure at f9 on full manual 5" second intervals WB set to incandescent Large Fine JPEG format 646 shots used, covering approximately 50 minutes. D300 built in intervalometer Created using Photoshop CS4 Extended 10 frames per second on the video render. http://flic.kr/p/8Tud8D Uploaded to Flickr, so I can't embed it here (or don't have the inturhnetz skillz to make it happen.) Learnings: With this bunch (4 to 8 year old kids), I probably should have gone with a faster shutter speed and a shorter interval between shots. I also shot in Large Fine JPEG, and I probably could have just used Medium or Small Fine JPEG, as I had to do a batch resize anyway. With my 8GB card, I would have been able to take nearly 1300+ shots at Medium Fine JPEG or over 2900 shots on Small Fine JPEG. This would have allowed for a shorter interval. In the edit, I could have chopped off the last few hundred shots or so (about 10 seconds of "video") since all the action had ended anyway. Overall, I'm pretty happy with the results! Now I've got to find other applications..... Time Lapse would probably make for a good Contest theme too.....

10-15 minutes, if that. Took more time to run the batch resize......

That's pretty sweet Scott. I was watching some CNN videos last week about time-lapse photography of rush hour in different cities of the world. It was pretty cool. Thanks for posting the setting details.

I think it works well. I've had a play with timelapse as the timer etc is built into the camera. Nice idea using the kids party. Might do one for Xmas.

That was pretty cool. I must admit, though....I felt a little bad for the stegosaurus. He went unnoticed for almost the entire party! lol
