Blizzard (left) and Flash (right) -- old photo and these llamas are no longer with us. The problem is I haven't taken llama photos for years; need to put that on my "to do" list.

At one point, I had 14 llamas. Now I'm down to two old females and two semi-old gelding males.

When you say "the waiting" are you saying she's going to have babies? Maybe I'm wrong, but if I'm right I hope everything goes/went okay.

Spit? Why Esteban, that would be nasty.

Yeah, they spit -- just like all llamas and alpacas -- but we've never had them spit on a visitor. They occasionally spit at me when the vet is here; the vet is giving shots at the back end and I'm holding the llama's halter at the front end, so they protest at the indignity.

The other thing about llama spit is that it isn't spit -- they have multiple stomachs and they bring already-chewed grass up into the mouth and spit that. Nasty stuff!

Once again my beloved girl before and after getting a haircut.
Btw she's an Australian Cobberdog, aka the real Labradoodle. Super sensitive dog, no hair shedding. Anyone of our Oz friends familiar with this breed?

Indeed!

Celeste whelped her first litter today. 6 healthy puppies (3 girls and 3 boys). Unfortunately, we lost the last girl (#7). Now the fun begins!

Llama & Great Pyrenees photos taken today:

1) female Cocoa Puff (age 23), gelded male Comet (age 18) and Great Pyrenees Ziggy

2) gelded male Thunder (age 18)

3) Cocoa Puff and older sister Oreo Cookie (age 25); Oreo Cookie is very thin and I think she may be going blind as well.

Llama facts:
-- Llamas have front teeth on the bottom only and they stick out at a 45 degree angle -- an orthodontist's dream! But it works for them.

-- Females have a 50 week gestation period. They nurse the cria (baby llama) for six months. Optimally, two weeks (!) after giving birth, they get pregnant again. Therefore, for five and a half months, they are eating for three: themselves, the nursing cria and the fetus. Our last cria was born in 2009 -- photo of cria and mom Cocoa Puff attached.

Walter when he was younger. He's 9 now, completely blind but still has an amazing disposition. He adapts pretty well and we make sure he lives a great life. Golden Retrievers are such well mannered dogs. My buddy!!!

Kaiser was our second Samoyed and who we learned all about the dog show world (yes, "Best In Show" is more reality than parody). Kaiser was a great companion and was one of the best inside and outside the show ring. He was often my co-pilot and loved to go for car rides. He's the only one of our dogs that I'd let ride in my BMWs (including the maiden drive of our Z4). Sadly, we lost him a couple of years ago to cancer, but he will always be loved.

In part, Kaiser will always be with us because we kept Aurora, his daughter from the first litter we bred (momma is Faith - pictures coming soon). She had her 3rd litter earlier this week. Good thing, too, because Celeste got some sort bug so Aurora has been helping with feeding Celeste's puppies. Like her daddy, she's a wonderful companion and a great competitor in the show ring.

16 years ago I came home from work one day to find that my wife and 14 y/o daughter decided to get kittens. Brother and sister, the black one belongs to my daughter. She named him Toulouse after the Disney movie Aristocats.



Toulouse went off to college with her even though he doesn't travel well. But when she moved to Reno he just couldn't make the long trip, so home he is with his sister, Allie.

Boo, helping my wife and I watch a movie in our loft.

He's dumb as a post, is not much for guys (he's "meh" with me, but likes my wife), and is pretty much a very gorgeous cat.

Did I mention dumb as a post?
