First Trip to COTA- Holy ****!( Ferrari F40, Lotus, Porsches, etc..)

Just got back from a business trip to Austin and had a chance to stop off and visit Circuit of the Americas. If you haven't been there all I can say is wowwwww. The facilities are massive and super clean. I unfortunately had no means to drive it, but it is now on the top of my to do track day list. Fortunately there were some extensively modified Porsches, Lotuses, etc. out on the track and I caught a drag race between a blown CTS-V (est 750whp+\-) and a Porsche going down the front stretch. It's about 1/2 way into the 1 1/2 min long video down below and the whine from that s/c is incredible. Anyone else been out there who has driven it? Would love to hear your feedback. It looks to be a bit more of a higher horsepower style track vs a low power momentum track.

It also didn't hurt to be parked directly next to two of the most sought after Ferrari's of all time... **drool**

This is definitely one of those big balls tracks. Gonna be pretty scary driving full out in our overpowered yet underbraked cars on the long straight.

Ran into a guy at a recent BMW CCA event. He bought his F40 for something like $400k. He is having it sold on consignment for $1.25 million. Awesome windfall of cash.

Damn... Talk about a nice investment. A good friend of mine bought a fully restored Cadillac recently for $26K. He's been offered upwards of $34K just a few weeks later...

Yeah the values of classic cars have skyrocketed in the last 5-7 years. They made over 1,300 F40s so they're not nearly as rare as many people think but they are certainly highly valued by enthusiasts. I saw one at a local shop here with 4,200 on the ODO and they were replacing belts and hoses. The prices on parts was truly staggering.

I was looking at Alfa Romeo GTVs in 2008-2010 and they were in the low teens for a nice example. Today they are in the high $30s. Really quite shocking.

for a small window or a split but sorry no. Went down that road with my son 10 years ago, was fun and raw but never came close to breaking even on a 73 sport bug.

There was a recent event at COTA with some extremely nice cars: Hyuara's, F1, P1's, etc.

Of course they have, much like all other high priced mega homes, art work, etc. As the rich have become even more fabulously wealthy these past seven years thanks to the easy money policy of the Fed, the prices of exotic items have greatly inflated.

One of the best parts about going to COTA, for anything, is the drive from SA up the toll road where cruise can be set on 90 MPH.

Yeah, I was looking at GTVs a few years ago too. I decided not to spend the money at the time but really wish I had. Now I'm thinking of 240Zs before their prices jump, or maybe a modern classic like a Z4 M Coupe.

The Z4M will be your favorite car of all time. I've had a ton of cool stuff, but I'm on my second Z4M now (roadster), and want nothing else. They are fantastic machines, and I advise you to buy one as soon as possible.

No problem! It's just such a fantastic car, the one I have now is nine years old with about 65k miles on it. It still looks new, runs new, and feels new. It's got everything I want in a car. Just make sure you are aware of some of the issues the car has since it has the S54 (bearings, vanos bolts, etc.). I get Blackstone oil analysis reports done every oil change to keep an eye on bearing wear. Definitely research the topic before you buy a car. Ask the current owner if they have these oil reports, it will buy you a ton of peace of mind. Good luck!

Also, my prior car was an 08 135i just like yours (check my threads, I had mine highly modded). It was an awesome car, but even with all the power, I just HAD to get back into a Z4M. I love the car that much.

I concur, it was really a special machine that I regret letting go.
