Yet another Amtrak/truck crash

This is becoming an epidemic.

I guess this latest one wasn't a stalled truck. It was an oversized load that couldn't make the turn after the tracks. They even had a police escort who should have been checking for just that issue before letting the truck cross the tracks.

The more I read about this, the more it looks like stupidity reigned at that crossing. There was a sign with emergency notification numbers right there and no one called. There are lawyers salivating about the coming lawsuits in this one. Lots of deep pockets. Shark feeding frenzy.

Not Amtrak this time, but a commuter rail/car crash in LA today. If the driver of the car recovers, it'll be interesting to hear what he was doing that caused him to not see the train he turned in front of.

Garage List
I was driving my friend around yesterday, and whichever dumbass decided it was a good idea to put 4-quadrant gates on the tracks (the kinds where barriers come down on both sides of the tracks) needs to find a new job. Glad it was a commuter train and the train station was nearby so it stopped anyway, but some idiot in a tuned-up Lexus IS decided to rush through the first gate, only to get trapped by the 2nd gate. It took a few minutes just for someone to open the gate to let the car through, then a cop came along and wrote him up. Idiocy does not even begin to describe what I saw.

Apparently now the story is changing. At first they SUV drove into the side of the train.

This one was intentional. But if you wanted to die by getting hit by a train, why not just step in front of the train? Why risk derailing it and killing innocent people in the train?

Maybe he was hoping it would look like an accident for the insurance payoff?

I was at the red light at the intersection that has all the recent "activity" and as I saw the guards dropping, this semi was rounding the corner and had to lock-up the brakes to stop in time. He ALMOST gunned it to try and beat the arms once he started skidding. I wouldn't have had time to get my phone out to catch the impact, but could have recorded the ensuing fireball. . .
