Sometime around early 1967, I came close to buying a red 1963 Ford Galaxie 500 with the 406 engine and 4-speed manual. I say almost because after I test drove it for a couple of days I could see that it had been driven hard and put away wet. The thing did have some serious get up and go, though. On the last day of the test drive, I left about 200 feet of rubber on the cement highway in front of our Junior college (the owner had removed the posi-traction differential). The smoke was impressive. That black strip (right wheel only) remained on the highway for months!

I remember getting pulled over by Metro Police (I ended up working for them for about 30 years) in front of my high school after putting down a couple of big black strips. The officer asked me if I was trying to impress the young lady that was in the car with me at the time. I replied that I did it for my own personal satisfaction. He let me off with a warning.....I think he might have been a car guy.

I forgot to mention that I got about 5 feet of 2nd gear rubber on that 200 foot, 1st gear tire shredding run. Then the water pump started leaking...

Cobra mounting a Ginetta.
Can anyone identify the car in the background?
Kinda looks like a Ferrari LM but rear end looks too stubby.

Edit....likely a Ginetta G12!!!!

I'm sure I'm missing the point but my 2014 F30 328i has the same 240 HP. I never would sell it but if that buyer would have given me $17.5 million for it, I'd be okay and he/she would have saved $500,000 and gotten two extra doors and a back seat.

So visited the Mini today....she is really coming along. The engine is running like a top, suspension is done. All the work is pretty much done except for installing the interior. Should be ready for road in a few weeks. The pictures don't do the car justice, the attention to detail is outstanding. When It's all done I'll do a photo timeline and some finished product in daylight. Note the LED's on the dash, they are connected to the door switch as are the entry lights and other interior lighting. Lisa is very happy.
