Are there any issues mounting a spoiler on PPF

Are there any issues mounting a spoiler on PPF?

I have ceramic coating on top of the PPF and already know that it will need to be buffed or polished off in the area that the trunk spoiler attaches prior to installing the spoiler.

After I remove the ceramic coating I am wondering if there will be any issues using 3M double sided tape and mounting the spoiler on the PPF?

I just had a similar conversation with the PPF guy I'm using Monday. I just finished rebuilding the front carbon splitter on my M4 and it will have 12mm double tape where it mounts to the body plus hardware and I'm also adding nylon rub blocks on the bottom so I don't have to do this again.
Bottom line we mapped out the area's that would get PPF and not be under any of the adhesives. IMO I would have your PPF installer install the spoiler as cutting applied PPF is not for the faint of heart and it's possible you may have reapply the PPF to the trunk again after the spoiler is installed. Good luck

My issue is that I already have the PPF and definitely don't want to have it cut, even for the small area that the spoiler occupies. Will the 3M double sided tape hold properly? Is it possible that it pulls on the PPF when driving at high speeds?

Would you glue a shelf to wallpaper on your wall and expect it to stay? Let alone a functional attachment that is impacted by force!

Remove the PPF and do the spoiler right and then reapply PPF! What's the problem?

Color me cheap, I don't want to replace the PPF on my trunk unless I really have to.

There's also a question of the adhesive actually adhering to the PPF. I can't say if it will or will not, but keep it in mind. Even with the ceramic buffed off, the PPF itself might inherently resist being stuck to. Any surface that water beads on tends to be resistant to adhesives.

It’s not going to adhere properly to PPF. Remove the PPF from the trunk first and have it reapplied. It won’t cost that much.

My installer removed the spoiler before installing PPF in the trunk. PPF on the spoiler as well. Been almost 2 years and no issues with the spoiler on top of PPF.

Yes, I live in a condominium which only has outdoors parking and we have to pull into the spot headfirst. My space is partially covered and the rear third is not protected.

My parking space faces directly south and I’m located right next to the intercoastal waterway and a short distance to the Atlantic Ocean. My car is subjected to intense sun all day long, frequent heavy rains and salt air.

The bottom line is I need all the protection I can get which is why I have PPF and ceramic coating. 👍🏻

Glad it’s working out for you. I have PPF on my front lip and I’ve used 3M VHB backed stick on Acexxon front lip protector, first kit started coming loose after days. I reapplied a second kit again making sure to clean again using the alcohol prep pads and heating the the 3M tape. It’s held a bit better, but has still come loose on the edges.

There is no debate that any adhesive is going to stick better to well prepped paint than it will to PPF which is designed to be a non stick surface for easier cleaning.

I had my M Performance rear spoiler mounted on on top of PPF for 7 years with no issues. Surface prep is important. Make sure any coating is removed from the area of the PPF you plan to stick on, and use 3M adhesive primer.

If you cut the PPF, the cut edges will collect dirt and look unsightly after a while. So, if you plan to cut, make sure you cut a smaller area so the spoiler covers the cut hole.

It protects against micro-scratches if someone closes the trunk when the car isn't perfectly clean.
