All this talk about job titles...
It got me thinking about my job title...
I was hired as a data entry clerk.... I don't know what that involves, but I know what I do. I build window house packets to be ordered. That's my "official" thing I do. Now I build all the house packets. Like the quotes, the orders, the does this work, etc etc etc. I also am responsible for inputting service requests into the system, printing off the requests for the receivers when they arrive. This involves going through multiple lists, locating the order in the system, and printing and delivering the paperwork to the service department. I also am in charge of scrubbing the invoices for charges that we do not pay. This can be PDF files +100 pages long. I also created an excel file that is updated (by me) weekly of the company statements and have to scrub through this too. I create and send out weekly salesperson cost analysis reports weekly as well. And I create a weekly delivery schedule for incoming shipments. Now this got me thinking.....is this a normal data entry job anymore? I was once called an "ordering specialist" by the boss. |

Well, you're entering data and making sure it is correct... so... yes?

Fellow Project Coordinator here. As I was reading your job responsibilities I thought that sounded a lot like what I do but just a little different. I deal primarily with engineering type projects essentially the same function however you guys seem to be on the selling end as to where I am on the purchasing end. Sounds more like an Inside Sales Support type position to me.

My previous job had data entry clerks. They basically just typed data into excel spreadsheets and campus databases. It was really a transfer of information, no knowledge required. If you could read and type you could do the job, which is why it was entry level $10/hour.
It sounds like you do more than that. I was first hired at my company as an onsite IT technician. I am now considered the "onsite IT coordinator for northeast accounts". Little of my job is actually being a technician, most of it is coordinating projects, managing processes at different sites, and meeting with district administrators/clients.

It sounds like my suspicions would be correct that they pay....ok the pay for a data entry clerk is pretty good here for the area.
However, this is not a data entry position anymore and I'm seriously being underpaid because of this. I don't really know how to deal with this.... I should use my GI bill.... |

deal with it by finding a better job if you are not happy, which based on a few other threads, I would say you aren't. I don't understand what is so hard about that.

Have you thought about relocating? I'm not sure if you have family or reasons that really keep you there, but I know when I was job hunting last go around there were certain positions that would definitely have me considering it.

Own property is why I don't relocate. Plus I'm not relocating anymore. I'm done with moving.
I don't mean to come off rude or abrasive, but I just can't move around anymore. I've done it for a long time. |

I totally get that man. I have quite a few military family/friends who seem to never stay in one spot. I can't imagine what that is like.

Everyjob title sounds so lavish no days. People are bottom feeders and somehow get the title "specialist" or Project manager...when you really don't manage. Don't mean to offend, just a trend I've seen

Currently we have "Sanitation Crews" no one wants to be a "Shoveler of Shit." At a former job I was asked to give myself my own title for my business cards. I ran the purchasing department so I chose "Acquirement Overlord." |

This hatred and spite for this company really stems from being written up. I know it sounds petty, and I admit it took me a bit to grasp it too. |
