What's the best engine oil for the 528i other than the genuine twin turbo one. Any suggestions?

Any oil that meets BMW LL-01 specs is appropriate. There are a lot of them. Available at Walmart, online and others.

Personally, I use liqui-moly 5w-40 in both my e60 and e91.

Buy it once from FCP and it guaranteed replacement for life. I return all of my used oil to them and it's replaced for free.

In my opinion Motul X-clean is very very good.

Mobil 1 0w40 is readily available and meets the specs..

I use Mobil 1 5w-30 on my 2008 528i, I get the high mileage advanced tech (it has a gold banner on the bottle). I have been using it since 2017. It does a great job, I have no complaints.

If you go with something else, I would say it depends on what you are looking out of from your engine.
