Ppl think ah they're only lug nuts (ha) but these little things need checking from time to time for torque security and peace of mind,I check the torque, on my car every couple months.

Ok, don't we Bimmers use lug bolts, not nuts?

Ya, I can't be bothered w those locked bolts anymore, switched them all to reg ones, they are just a pain and if a thief wants your wheels, those things won't stop them, but it will be a pita for whoever's changing your wheels if the adaptor broke, you forget to bring it, etc.

20 years I've been taking cars to track. 20 years I've been torquing lug nuts and bolts to spec on Saturday morning. 20 years I've never had a significant problem....

UNTIL - one Audi Club event, Sunday, second session. Some kind of vibration. I would have SWORN it was the right front. Checked everything out. On casual checks, didn't see anything (BMW lug bolts are BLACK). I said "screw it, full tire change for next session)

THREE of the left rear bolts were GONE. THREE. They were torqued less than 30 hours ago, and did a full day of balls out wide open throttle work. And the only symptom was a little vibration.

Could have backed out itself. Things happen. Reason that car experts tell you to "check everything every time"

WOW

RIGHT I think the moral of this tale is everyone should check there nuts on a regular basis and I would also go so far as saying just to be sure you didnt miss anything get a friend to check your nuts as well !

wait what are you being sexist ?
what does it matter what gender your nuts are

nut or bolt, we are all human, except nut or belts which are pieces of metal,
but still, it's the thought that counts...

please try to remember
1 race, 2 genders and 7 who are just batshit crazy

This post was not meant to offend anyone, harass, embarrass or bully.
Please don't sue me I don't have any money.
It's all gone on the BMW

You all should keep this technical filth over in the wheels/tires thread or the mods will ban OT for having actual car-related content - nice job trying to mask it with that title, though.

A senior US Army Officer,McAuliffe said ''Nuts'' to the enemy when they asked his troop to surrender in the battle of the Bulge during WW2.
