Upper trims have the 2.5T with 256 hp and 320 lb ft of torque. It's not gonna reset the earth's rotational inertia but 0-60 in 6.2 secs will easily run away from nearly everything in its segment and even keeps pace with a new X3 30i.

Also CX-5 has excellent safety rating. This or x3 would be a good start to test drive. Our x3 n55 has been the most reliable car, much better than Acura/Honda we had years ago.

Boring, ugly and reliable go lexus.

Count me among those voting Mazda. Mazda is going upscale. Not suitable for autocross, but does your wife do autocross?

it's the right balance of size, power, luxury, and sportiness. B58 is amazing and highly reliable. looks better than 90% of SUVs on the road...grill size is proportional. feels so much more solid than most of the other options listed.

also has a premium badge which OP's wife would prefer to avoid, and starts at $61k.

Fuck me that is a lot of coin to drive a hateful tech loaded, alarm ringing, warning sounding modern version of an automotive maude flanders.

I'd be looking for a 4 year old, off lease creampuff lexus or whatever, go back a generation when cars were less fucking loathsome and pocket 30K.

like buy a M3 or a civic. anyways just my opinion. no half way

"CX-5 (What she keeps talking about even though she has driven NOTHING else yet.)"

honestly just buy this. Mazda is really nice.

again a cx-5, rav-4, crv, x3, explorer...Relatively all the same shit.

good luck. cars are all preference nowadays well rarely will you find someone who actually can tell Objective differences
The CX-5 drives better.

Change that C to an M.

But yeah, some friends have a CX-5 and they're really happy with it... I don't think I'll ever understand the love of SUVs.

Hyundai has taken a page out of the BMW service book and they provide 3 years / 36,000 mi of "complementary maintenance"!
This is a good thought. Hyundai (and Kia) are not what they were years ago. And they have a five year bumper to bumper warranty and a ten year powertrain warranty.

no one wants to believe nor does OP. this thread is so fucking stupid. he posts and asks for advice and then shoots it down. as if any of this decision making will have some logic to it.

a CRV is just as practical as a G wagon, all told unless you are going off road

Wife drove a X3 for 10 years. When it started making a 'clunk' going into reverse, I talked her into trading off for a MB GLC300 cause I wanted her to have a 'nicer' car (BMW supply was non-existent during Covid). She grew to hate that 'grandma car'. Traded it off less than a year in for her '22 X3 30i. I've learned that SHE needs to select and 'bond' with it. I guess I hadn't learned enough from when I tried to buy a gun 'for her'. (she has plenty of guns...LOL)

CX-5 Turbo. Great power, still low key. Throw her in a few other cars to see if something else stands out. But let he get what she wants.
My wife just sold her GLA45 AMG (amazing car) and is now waiting on her X3MC

Must have 4 doors w/heated seats. She says she wants an SUV because of the typical "like to be high up"

She is also not interested in Honda, Toyota or Subaru.

She is weary of anything with a badge that could attract attention since she is a teacher in the ghetto.

Potential options are:

Explorer ST
Edge ST
Elantra N
CX-5 (What she keeps talking about even though she has driven NOTHING else yet.)
GV70
Stinger GT2 AWD
If she is weary of attention, the GV70 will likely need to be crossed off the list. Even though no one knows what brand it is, the car does get attention, especially ours which is white and chrome. Its a flashy vehicle. Also be sure to get a good dealer, we have had poor luck with our local Genesis dealer and will be switching for our next service.

Top choice would easily be a CX-5 or CX-50, whichever she ends up liking more. Fantastic and dependable vehicles. Avoid the Fords in my opinion. The Elantra and Stinger seem like they don't exactly go towards what she wants.

She's talking about the Mazda and it's the cheapest car there. Why is this still a discussion? Buy if before she spots a Stelvio or something.
