I am thinking of adding a truck. Not to replace anything we have now, but to either be the new DD or just add a cheap old truck for the utility.t

My problem is, if it is to be my DD, I really don't see any options that are also quick or fun to drive. I would get bored real quick with a new standard truck that has no fun factor.

The old SRT-10 Rams are overpriced and so are the old Ford Lightnings IMO. Otherwise, I'd pick 1 of them & be done. Not really into an EV so the new L is out. Definitely not wanting to drop a ton of money on a truck. Maybe an old Dakota R/T, but even those are overpriced...

I did a video review of my 2023 Denali eight months after trading in my M550i on the truck.

I love my RAM, easily, the most reliable car we own. I don’t use it every day, maybe weekly but I love having it.

my tuned and on e85 22 f150 3.5 ecoboost does 11 second 1/4 miles. if you want to lower and do some suspension work, its a great handling truck as well.

fits the fun car need for me right now

I have a truck, if I had to choose, I'd rather daily drive the truck than the M3's I have. Interior space, better mpg, etc.

I love the 3.5 l eco boost. Just like the BMW V8 in the X5, it has gone through a few iterations. The first gen had cam phaser issues, but I believe the current gen is #3. Fabulous engine. It has great acceleration (for a pickup), my F150 can safely tow (I never believe mfg specs on towing capacity) 10 K lbs, and I average 21 mpg average. 10 speed while not the smoothest shifting transmission, is pretty good. Ford has done a good job on the 3.5L ecoboost.

I can't imagine spending my hard earned money on anything that isn't fun to throw around a corner.

I'll never own a truck in my lifetime. Glad none of my hobbies involve needing a truck/SUV.

Well, they’re very useful. Especially if you’re a Home Depot platinum member.

And left lane campers are more likely to move out of the way when you’re riding their ass.

Ford F150 XLT 5.0 4X4 single cab short bed. It's around a $45K truck new. The cab is plenty roomy for anyone under 6' 5". Stock it's a mid 13 second truck. Add a few bolt-on mods and it's a 12 second truck. Lower it a bit and add some wider and stickier rubber and it will handle alright.

I'm seriously considering this combo to replace my M235.

My GMC 6.2L makes 420hp stock. Add a supercharger and some other bolt-ons and you can see 700+hp. It's not going to outhandle a sports car, but it will embarrass a few at a stoplight that think a truck can't haul more than home improvement materials.

Add a whipple on to that and its a very formidable street truck running low 10s if you want to push it to the limit.

and those single cab, short beds can handle pretty well with some better tires and suspension.

yeah im a fan of most 6 cylinder turbo'd engines, and this one is solid so far. only 30k miles on it so far, but it has held up well to daily abuse and has been tuned since day 1.

I thought it'd be more.

I don't know, I'd have a hard time dropping $40k on that. I might rather have a 2nd gen L or a much cheaper HD with the L drivetrain.

Not saying it is not worth it, but for someone that does not NEED a truck...

My M550i was something like 4,400lbs. Trucks for $40k are a distant memory unless you buy a simple work truck.

Tack 10K on top of that for the Denali Ultimate. Iirc, that gets nicer leather, massage seats and ugly af wheels.

If only they'd offer Supercruise in the Canyon...

I didn't care for the leather in the "Ultimate" with the busy embossing of the topographical design. If it were smooth, I think it would have been more appealing to me since they essentially wrap everything in the cab with it. The Supercriuse isn't something I was interested in either and it requires a subscription of $25 per month to use it after the initial included period. I also didn't care for the carbon-pro (composite) bed that is standard on the Ultimate. I do like the black chrome grille and GMC badging that come with the Ultimate.

The Denali coordinates leather are definitely on the hokey side, imo. I like your wheels and despise the Ultimates. Ghastly.
Pretty much zeroed in on a loaded AT4 non X. 7700 tow rate while the X drops to 6500, iirc.

50k is ridiculous though. Is what it is. Got 1k off...so far.

The AT4 package makes for a tough looking and solid off-road performing truck. I actually considered an AT4-X when I was in the market, but they were impossible to find on a lot and the wait times were 6-8 months to reserve a dealer ordered one. Because my employer is a GM supplier/partner, I got special pricing that cut nearly $5k off the sticker price.

I've been driving BMW 3-series for over 30 years and in that time have had several 4x4 off road oriented trucks in the fleet. I have a 2009 Hummer H3T and a 2022 Bronco at this point.

You'd be surprised how well a modern truck handles. Are they M3 class, of course not, physics doesn't allow it, but they are an enjoyable drive within their design envelope. If someone said I'd have to pair down to one vehicle, the H3T probably would get the vote based on its utility and driving dynamics. It well covers the spectrum.

My Bronco is the 2.3L/MT drivetrain. On the backroads of WV, it does extremely well dynamically. It actually is somewhat tossable and provides decent feedback through the suspension, brakes, and steering.

My 2 cents.
