Tesla cannot know where you car is. Really?

So Tesla says "while you can monitor the location of your car, Tesla cannot." Something about total privacy. I wanted to laugh but I thought I'd ask you clever folks first ... really?

Well from a technical stand point, sure, they could make it work so you can track your car but Tesla can't. They can anonymize the fleet data for their machine learning or what not. Do they actually do this and are there no back doors or anyone at any level who can get access to this data? Dunno.

However if I REALLY didn't want to be tracked I probably would not drive any modern car.

It's quite possible to make a system with end-to-end encryption for the identifiable data with no private key accessible by Tesla employees. Like iMessage, for example. This is the way I would do it because then you can do like Apple and tell law enforcement that you can't even get the data for them if you wanted to. Otherwise Tesla probably would be spending a ton of time sending this data to various agencies.

Driving a modern car comes with the risk of being tracked, especially if it is a Tesla car. The company anonymizes the fleet data for machine learning, but it is not certain whether there are backdoors or someone at any level that can access this data. If you really want to ensure you're not being tracked, then you should avoid driving any modern car.

Ride a bicycle with your cell phone and you're being tracked

BMW can surely track your (modern) BMW any time its wants.
Otherwise the concierge and emergency systems wouldn't work.
Can't see why other mainstream manufacturers with similar systems should not be able.

Just curious as to why you would say that? It’s because you figure newer generations,( cough, cough, cough, millennials,) of people have accepted and don’t mind being tracked?

We’ve been tracked for decades. Unless you’ve never owned a cell phone.

Tracks you by where you visit so you get more pop up ads for visiting the stores and sell your data. You know they do why think otherwise.

I can't imagine why any company would want to track me. How boring that would be.
