Thanks to those who voted for Chulo and Take Paws Rescue! Take Paws didn't win the $5k and though that sucks the positive is that another rescue did benefit and it gives them to ability to help more animals out.

I have always gotten my pets from a shelter. There are so many sweet and loving animals that need our help.

I'm looking to add to my family in the next 6 months. Using my social media connections first.

Would anyone recommend a chocolate lab organization? I'm looking for an older, pure bred, male. Preferably a senior who needs a good home (hopefully not afraid of horses and kids) to live out his days. Not for hunting. Just a companion pet and someone to fetch and chew up my slippers. I'm open to a younger, adult dog. No puppies.

Good for you for rescuing!
I would look local for the Lab Rescue Group, or such. Most states have them (I'm friends with an Aussie Rescue person in PA.).
Not to denigrate shelters, but I think the breed rescue orgs know their breeds better, try to match them to the owners better, and can offer you more help in picking & meeting your dog.
I'm excited for you; labs are great.

Check out with Take Paws Rescue in New Orleans. They work with shelters & rescue organizations from all over. If you tell them what you're looking for they might be able to help. I have the coordinators number from my adoption and can always reach out to ask. Just let me know!
