I've been screwed
Hi all I'm new here. Just recently bought a 2010 535i used. Took it to a shop over the weekend and they quoted $8,000 in repairs and labor. Im not sure what to do here Haven't even owned the car a month. So if I try to fix everything wrong with it how feaseable would that be? From needing new injectors to replacing an upper radiator hose, to replacing the oil pan. Not really mechanically inclined but i dont have the 8,000. Any suggestions

Are you going to a BMW dealership? The fuel injectors are covered by an emissions warranty, 10 year 120k miles. Mine were replaced twice under that warranty, along with some catalytic converters and fuel sensors.
If your radiator hose is broken you need to fix that, so pay for that. I think mine was like $500 last winter. As for a warranty, I would recommend getting a bank account at Pen Fed Credit Union. Then you can refinance your car with them, up to 110% of the NADA value, and they offer a third party warranty through RT 66 for $3,000. You can pay for it if via the refi you have enough equity in the car, or pay out of pocket. My RT 66 warranty paid out $10k in repairs so it was a good investment. |

if the oil pan is just sweating, and not dripping oil all over the place then let it leak. that will save you $2000 easily go to different shops. get more quotes. |

Sounds like the shop is on a fishing expedition for a sucker. Injectors? Oil pan? That's total crap. Radiator hoses are like 10 year or 100k mile wear out items. Upper and lower hoses should be replaced together, else you're stuck for another coolant flush when another hose swells to where it might leak. Did they also talk about belts at the same time? Try to sell you rotors, and make you a sweetheart deal for the Brooklyn Bridge while they were at it?
