PROCede (v1.47) 335i vs. E60 M5...a bit surprising!

No flames on this one please as I was just as surprised as most of you will be.

I was running a quick errand for my wife when up behind me came a black E60...didn't know it was an M5 at this point. Since he was on my a$s, I gunned it up to the red light (~ 1/8 mi. away) just for fun, and it took him a while, but he caught up.

Then, as the light turned green and I was still in front, I gunned it again and he didn't catch me until I put on the brakes and shut it down, since it was a urban rd. with a low speed limit. He then flew by me until the next red light; that's when I realized it was an M5...saw those quad pipes and the ///M5 logo!!!! Here's where it really got interesting.

As he took a right at the light (and I rolled up behind him), he gunned it and I followed...but he couldn't lose me; in fact, I caught up quickly and began to pull on him @ ~ 60mph - ~ 90mph when we had to shut it down again.

Yes, I know, those M5s have much more top end power, and he probably would've walked me above 120mph, but I was really under the impression that a $90k E60 M5 would walk a PROcede 335i right from the get-go...but, apparently NOT SO.

In addition, I know some of you might say...well, he didn't press that M power button. Although I don't know for sure, I'd say that he must have been in P500 M power mode (full 507HP), since he knew we were having a little fun together for several minutes and a few runs. I'm confident he pushed that little "M" button his steering wheel.

The only other things that could've inhibited him was the fact that he had 1 other guy as a passenger (and I was alone in my car), and the hot, humid weather (93 degrees F / 61% R.H.).

When we shut it down for the 3rd time, we both rolled down our windows and the 2 guys gave me a thumbsup and said that they didn't know the 335i was THAT fast! I said I have the PROcede piggyback computer and told them about my HP/TQ, and my run at the local 1/4 mi. drag strip; their jaws dropped to the floor...they nearly flipped out as they had never heard of the "PROcede 335i." I told them to look it up on the Internet!!!!!

Anyway, just thought I'd share..no flames please.

Elevation...what elevation? We're at ~ 8 ft. above sea level here.

He was probably in P400 mode so you were basically racing an E39 M5.

With the M5 in P500 mode and with someone who knew what he was doing behind the wheel you would have only seen tailpipes

Funny you ask for no flames when you say you trounced an M5.
It's amazing some of the stories the 335i owners will come up with...

Well, it happened exactly the way I described; it's my fault for not asking him if he was in P400 or P500 mode, but I'm fairly certain he was giving it ALL he had in P500 mode, since we ran 3x and I kept up (and even pulled on him) all 3 times. I'm not an 18-year-old kid; I actually have a clue what I'm talking about and I don't make up "kill stories" just for the attention.

I was surprised just as much as anyone. If it were me in the M5 and a guy in a 335i challenged me once, I may have in P400 mode...just to see what he's got. However, given the result of run#1...for runs #2 and #3, I would've pushed that little "M" button to go into P500 mode. :rocks: But, that's just me.

First off I take offense to the 18 year old comment, not all 18 year olds act that way so thats rubbish. Second; My dad owns an m6 and ive driven a 335 before, not procede, but the 335 is fast but its not as fast as the m v10 engine even with your HP/TQ numbers. I highly doubt he was in P500 mode.

not all 18s but MOST....anyways nice story, i love the element of surprise~ im sure the guy in the M5 had the same feeling, hes thinking damn even in p500 this little thing hangs with me NooOOOOoooooo~ LOL..the 335 is still new, so lets just wait for the market to bring us a lil more toys..like a single turbo/intercooler...The 335 will be faster then a m5 because turbo charged cars have more tunning potential.

Ha ha..you just proved my point...you list a M6 Vert as one of your cars, but yet it's really your dad's car. Yeah, I used to live in Boca too, but not with my mom and dad; I had my own house. Anyway, back to my point...I wasn't trying to insult anyone or get flamed; just sharing a fun experience with an E60 M5 today. I'll say this AGAIN...I wasn't the ONLY one that was very surprised that I was able to hang with (even pull on) the E60 M5 from 0-90mph...there were two ppl that were even more surprised than me -- the M5 driver and his buddy in the passenger seat!

I NEVER said that a PROcede 335i is faster than an E60 M5, or that my PROcede 335i was faster than an E60 M5; in fact I admitted to the M5 driver (when I spoke with him at the light) that my car wasn't as fast as the M5, but with PROcede, it's certainly much faster than stock.

Maybe this guy is just a crappy driver, or maybe he took his dad's M5 out for a spin and picked up his buddy to tool around. I don't know, but they were shocked.

Even more amazing is the number of people who fail to read posts properly. He never said he "trounced" an M5. In fact he never even implied it. So where are you coming up with this?

Well, 5 less lbs. of "unsprung" weight at each corner (from my old M6 Reps, which were 25 lbs. each; the VS7s are 20 lbs. each)...does anyone know approx. how much 20 lbs. of "unsprung" weight equals in "sprung" weight?

I guess if you put it that way I dont have any cars so what am I doing on this site? As you would say shouldnt my daddy be on here reading me bedtime stories about your dangerous adventures through the streets?

All I was trying to say was I've driven both and I can tell you the m5 wasnt in P500 mode.

The 335 PROcede can hang with a E60 M5 until 100mph. This has been shown and proven multiple times, just ask Charlie (aka CEA).

Given that the OP clearly said that they raced up to 90mph...I tend to believe his story.

P.S. man, some people talk a lot of shit on this forum, without even owning a 335.

Tell me when you'd like to take a spin in a PROcede 335i and I'll oblige...with ~ 450 lb.-ft TQ in a 3,600 lb. car, you may be shocked as well.

ward...STFU; you're really a tool in your 325i and your Oprah avatar! You can call b.s. all you want from your little 325i and Z4, but it happened just as I said, and I believe the guy would've been smart enough to put it in P500 M power mode in runs 2 and 3, but no, I cannot verify that now. You always have to start in with your crap, don't you?

btw -- yes, he floored it; if you read my original post, I said I spoke with him at the light after the 3rd run...just forgot to ask if he was in P400 or P500 mode.

I'm not saying I'm better than anyone; in fact, I never said I was absolutely faster than the M5. I simply shared this experience I had today with an E60 M5, and I specifically asked twice that I NOT get flamed for it...that's it. So, of course in come the flamers (no pun intended, ward ), including ward who just had to call b.s. He's an antagonist just for the sake of arguing, which in many cases is completely unnecessary.

It was in P400. Or you wouldn't have actually made progress on him. I'm not saying that a P500 M5 would absolutely destroy you, because it wouldn't. They dynoes i've seen for stock M5's in P500 lead to around 410whp and 300wtq which is far from being unbeatable from a modded 335i's perspective. With those numbers in mind, what you did should be completely achievable against an M5 in P400 mode. Even if you take away 50whp from that car, you're looking at 360whp and probably around 270ish wtq. A proceded 335 should fare well against that, especially on the lower end of the speed spectrum. A huge torque deficit for the M5 and 500 pounds to boot.

But now that I think about it, a 335 with DPs, exhaust, and a Procede should actually run step for step with an M5, especially if the extremely hyped V2 turns out to be what everyone is making it out to be.
