Anyone else here like to have their Xenons on all the time... even during the day?

They look so sweet I have my foglights and xenons on all the time.

Tip: Turning on the foglights automatically turns on the lights as well so you don't have to remember to turn the lights off when you park the car.

I do that when I am waiting at the lights behind other cars when I can see my front's reflection. Then I'll start switching on my angel's lights...lol, always fun

Many consider it discourteous to run with fog lights in other than foggy conditions for which they are intended.

Yes, this is how BMW drivers acquire the reputation for being careless and selfish on the road. Use some sense when using lights. You think it's "cool", but a lot of people think it's annoying.

I do it all the time. And I see many other people do it all the time. I do not find it offensive, discourteous, or annoying; it's just a deadlight.

Yea, I turn them in the morning and in the late afternoon - esp. now that the days are shorter this is the perfect season to use them...they look almost ghostly in the fog...

why, I wonder? The fog lamps aren't bright. I don't give it a thought at all when I see another driver with them on. Are people really bothered by the small amount of light from fog lamps? I leave my lights on auto, b/c that is my habit, and if I switch them to the on position I forget to turn them off. As for the fogs, I don't think of turning them on unless I need them to enhance visibility (both for me and other drivers).

My first BMW (a '97 E39 5er) the there was a separate knob for the fogs and if it was in the on position, the fogs came on with the lights, of course they go out if switched to hi-beam. I think I used to run with my fogs on virtually all the time with that car, IIRC. My last two BMW's prior to this one have had DRL's (they are not active on my E90) and I just left my light switch in the auto position. But back to the quote above, I find it curious that one would be annoyed by another driver's fog lamps (unless they were Xenons - do HID fog lamps exist - maybe aimed striaght at someone!)

Neither the fogs, nor the xenons are bright during the day.

If you want to better represent BMW drivers to the world you should be really courteous and remove your xenons and replace them with halogens since pretty much anyone will agree they can be quite blinding at night.

Even with my previous car (didn't have xenons or fogs) I left the lights on all the time because it makes you that much more visible to other drivers, particularly from the back.

BTW many cars I can think of use foglights as daytime running lights.

I haven't looked specifically for this in the E-90 owners' manual but the manuals with previous BMWs advised against use of fog lamps except during foggy conditions. At one time, several statesw had laws or regulations covering the same. I haven't checked lately. At any rate, it doesn't make much sense to me to run unnecessary lights and if it is important for some that others see what make of car you are driving, lights on make it more difficult to identify you. It also makes your car stand out to LEOs.

I try not to run them at all unless I need them. I don't put them on the "auto" position for the same reason. I want to keep them yellow/white as long as I can compared to the more bluish-hue they get when they get a few hundred hours on them. My e46's were really blue because I used to run them all the time, then when I really needed them in the rain/winter seasons, I felt they were not as bright as before. Not this time...

I also save my foglights for the rainy season.

When you have your lights set to on manually, does the car not warn you with a beeping or something if you forget to turn them off and open the door or take the key out? My current car does that.

It does, but this car beeps at me so much that I'm pretty desensitized to it.

Seatbelt warning, snow warning (I'll get that every day all winter as soon as I
pull out of the heated garage into the cold air), key warning everytime I turn off the car and open the door, low fuel warning....

beep beep beep beep beep... this thing is worse than my mother.

I leave mine on auto so they basically do that anyway without me having a choice.
I don't know if I'm going to keep using the auto feature.
