The Locomotive thread
We have threads for cars, bikes and planes so why not a thread specifically for the train enthusiasts?
I will start with the beautiful Duchess of Hamilton. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LMS_Pr...ss_of_Hamilton |

A couple of my favorites:
I wanted to get a "Big Boy" for a backyard layout, but a $15K locomotive wasn't in the budget. I just content myself with putting my LGB setup around the Christmas Tree. |

Some people may not know this, but Walt Disney had a love for trains.
So much so, - he built his own miniature at the studio, and eventually moved it to his backyard. He gave frequent rides to his children and guests on it. Here he is on the Lilly Belle (named after his wife): |

And here in Colorado the Durango/Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad train winds through some of the most scenic views in all of Colorado and has been in operation for 140 years. It is so named because the train tracks are only 3 feet wide. We've taken trips in both summer and winter and it leaves you breathless each time:

I took this one a couple of years ago. Not the greatest photo or scenic location, but it’s a favorite locomotive.

The red train is the Pikes Peak Cog Railway. Decided I wanted to drive to the top, that was a bad choice since we had a snow storm while we were inside the restaurant. Had to drive down in a rental car with snow on the road and almost 0 visibility.
The other is of the Royal Gorge Railway. This is by far the most scenic ride we've ever been on. Food was incredible as well. Only way you can see the gorge is by train or rafting so train it was lol. Can't recommend it enough, if you're in Colorado to visit it should be top of list. Takes 3 hours. |

"Only four class 242 locomotives were built and hiding underneath the plating is a 4-4-4 tank engine (UIC 2′B2′St). Built by MÁVAG (Magyar Királyi Államvasutak Gépgyára; Hungarian Royal State Railway Factory), Budapest in 1939. The loco was designed for high speed passenger services and the wheel arrangement allowed fast running in both directions. Restored in 2002 the loco still runs and is used for enthusiast excursions."

1942 Pennsylvania Railroad class T1, 4-4-4-4, designed by Ralph P. Johnson and Raymond Loewy. The wheel design probably meant that it was one powerful engine.
