Some one grabbed my nuts !
LOL,
So I put the winters on yesterday along with an oil change, via my trusted for many years tire guy (and BMW indy) (I usually hang with the guy's in the workshop, talking cars) During taking the front wheel of he says "your missing a nut" FUN FACT: Hitler only had one testicle. "I said, you what," thinking it was some kinda Canadian joke or possible he was being rude. No, He called me over, one of my lug's were missing,, Some little shit had taken a lug nut, NOW, only my tire guy and dealer ever worked on my car, last time tire guy had it, was fine, but was in the dealer for a couple of things since (not wheel related) BUT though I check for scratches on the car, I didnt look around for missing lug nuts So while I think somone at said dealer did it I can't prove it, I've probably been running on 4 lugs, for several months. I park on my drive and "ONCE" I had it parked in a multi-storey. OK, I replaced the missing lug and decided to use a tirepen to go round the edge of the bolts, as the bolts are black, you can't see them. But actually in writing I may get some chrome covers. BTW, check out the pics, do you prefer the car with Silver M wheels or bi-color. the silvers, I picked up for only $200 and there my winters, sorry car is dirty in the pic pictures coming.... |

It's unlikely a tyre guy would miss a wheel lug and unless the car is put away in a locked garage for the night strange things can happen then with weirdos wandering around putting foreign objects under tyres (like once on mine) and possibly removing wheel lugs.

I think that some mechanic dropped/lost a lug and didn't want to fess up - or your significant other is ambivalent and 20% wanting you dead (kidding ). Lug nuts are probably <$10 even at the stealership and practically generic, not s/t I'd expect to get stolen off a street car. If any others were loosened then post back for suggestions.
And wipe that marker off your lugs - makes them look like Elton John glasses or something. Good excuse to get a nice penlight. |

no, all the lugs were fine, just one missing,
just for safety and my sanity, I'm going to leave the tire pen on, although I was googling some alternatives, I'm actually kinda keen on "red" as a contrast color. so thinking red plastic covers (which some say get lost easily) or replacing the lugs with red ones.. I mean it wont stop "theft" but I can say at a glance that all 5 lugs are there or even possibly Chrome Quote:

If you're paranoid, why not get a complete set of anti-theft lug bolts and make every mechanic and tire shop hate you for the extra hassle whenever they need to remove a wheel?????

Not paranoid, and to be honest in 40+years of driving first time I've had a lug go missing. It's not a big deal/ |

Not to get off in the woods, but if the missing one was accidentally left loose by the shop, rotational force could have caused the lug to back out and poof. A lot of older cars actually had reverse threads on one side to circumvent that issue.
That caused a lot of broken studs when people were trying to remove them not realizing that they were reverse threads.

On bicycles, the left side cranks are lefty-tighty so that pedals tighten on both sides. Also, this happens not because the cranks spin forward in space, but because the pedals rotate against the forward spinning cranks. On a car wheel, this doesn't happen. That's why there's no need to make left side wheels lefty-tighty. |

^^^ Yep, didn't want to get that far down the rabbit hole, but that sums it up nicely.

For your color of car, these are the ones you want: https://www.bimmerworld.com/Wheels-T...-Nut-17MM.html.
I think the car looks better with the silver wheels.
