Is Jungfraujoch worth it (Switzerland)?

Looking like it will be pushing $500 USD for two people this summer. We can leave from Mürren or somewhere nearby to somewhat reduce the ticket price, but that's still a pretty penny.

Any thoughts from those of you who have done it? We were planning on going up Schilithorn already.

That's fucking expensive, I paid over $100 in 2001 and thought that was a lot but damn, it was good, it was very good.

Pretty much the same for me when I went in 2005, I think it might have been pushing $200 each then. Was amazing, do it once for sure.

Thanks, guys. Good to hear that it is worth plunking down the cash.

I don't get any impression that purchasing early is necessary. Is that right? Seems to be very weather dependent too?

I can't remember about buying in advance. But it definitely depends on weather - you want to go up on a sunny day, and I've been to the area on some pretty awful ones.

Yes, its worth it if the weather is clear. We went up and it was covered in clouds and we were thinking, oh crap. Then, the clouds dissipated and it was fantastic.

The engineering feat of putting a train track into a mountain is crazy even with today's technology. They did this over 100 years ago. Simply amazing to me.

Others have said to go down the Grindelwald side. If you want a less-touristy option, check out Wengen as a way back to Lauterbrunnen. There are places to spend the night in Wengen. We parked in Lauterbrunnen and just took a back pack with a change of clothes so we could hike down from Wengen to the valley instead of take the train. Awesome trip.

The area is amazing. You can't go wrong no matter what you do. Have fun!
